Hello, I haven't been able to get onto the UKTS forums for a few days now, I get the 500 error. This is both on the home and work computer and on different browsers. I know they have had some trouble but I was able to get on up to about Tuesday. I can get onto the other parts of the site. Has anyone else managed to access the forums in the last few days? Thanks Peter
Thanks, I wondered if this time it was just me as it has been iffy for a few weeks but after a few hours you could get on.
I could get access yesterday but not today. Probably won't get fixed until MattP gets time to do so. pH
all I get is a white screen, when I go to "view Source" for the page, it is blank, so nothing is there is no "index.php" it's gone
Today I get: This page isn't working at the moment forums.uktrainsim.com can't currently handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500 I know that there were problems with the version of software being used and SSL, which were going to be sorted when Matt P had the spare time to do so.
Glad it's not just me, been like this for over a week! error 500? The file library works fine just not the forums?
I can get to the File Library and you can download ok And I can get to the front page of the Boards but no further I even tried changing the "Skin" of the forums which works but you still can not access any of them We will just have to wait for TrainSim-Matt to fix it Peter
I think it will be some time before UKTS is back and running From what I have been told some work needs doing but that will not be after TSW2 launches
Hi All, I have noticed this problem for a few weeks now. I managed to get to the Intro page of the website on my phone and there is a message there from the chap who runs it and basically he is saying he is aware of the problems but hasn't managed to find time to fix due to heavy workload elsewhere. He hopes to fix it soon.
That's good to know it's not me. Thanks for putting it up here and letting us know we are all in the boat together.
That's strange, having read these recent posts, just went over there to the forums and it opened up without any problem for me? I'm using the Chrome browser by the way.
It's up and down like a yo yo due to faulty hardware on the server and bad software. This presents no risk to your data etc etc (all the important stuff is held offsite by WorldPay on secure servers) - but it does mean the site is going a but loopy. There's a new server being set up at the moment and over the next week or two it'll all be getting migrated, and then we'll be back to happy days again.
Tried to log on to UKTS but had no luck... Had forgotten my password so asked for a new one to be sent, then found the original password... Tried that but still couldn't sign in... Waited and waited for the password but nothing arrived despite system saying it had sent a new password!!! Then set up a new account and am still awaiting my password... Does anyone know if the UKTS system is broke??? Eric
The UKTS Forum is back up and the Prosilver board functions as it did before - yipee I realise some work might be available be it's like getting to see an old friend
I'm fairly sure it's up having posted there about 5 mins ago - just before I posted here. If it does not work for you change your browser
The email password bit seems to be broken, that doesn't work for me either. Also, while on that, I found this: AtomIC Albums is Copyright ©2001 Atomic Systems IP Ltd. All Rights Reserved. All pictures are Copyright their author, no pictures may be reproduced, reprinted or linked to without their authors written permission AtomIC Albums, what a random idea.
Ditto for me too! Like Matt said in his earlier post, give it another week or so and should be all sorted.
It goes blooie every so often until it is fixed properly - but it seems to resume after a short time working ok at 13.00 uk time
And people pay real money to use it... Amazing.. Edit: Well yeah ok the forums are free but the download subscription service should be covering the cost of decent servers for the forums shouldn't it?
I think they are upgrading them. And £3 is nothing for a months subscription to a large download library! You probably couldn't buy a coffee for that much!
That's £36 a year for effective access to a library of variable quality. ATS costs less than that. I'm not a big user of freeware so neither deal particularly interests me, but ATS looks a more modern and usable site. UKTS needs to modernise or it will be left behind.
You could pay £3 and get a month to download all you need, then if there is new content you want, maybe spend another £3 six months. I doubt many people spend £36 and certainly don't need to, so that argument is disingenuous. As for variable quality, quite frankly I would say that is a little offensive, I am speaking as someone who has uploaded content to the site. People have spent time and effort making content whether it is some trees, scenarios, a few buildings or a large route.
I've signed up for both, at different points, and one is leagues ahead of the other. UKTS is a 1990's style website.
AFAIK UKTS was set up by Matt Peddlesden's father eons ago. Matt has taken it over and had talked about updating the site. As a member of staff at DTG we can be sure that he is pretty busy there. UKTS might look old and clunky but there are some real gems among the stuff that dates from way back. ATS looks slicker, (it's a commercial site) but does that really have any bearing on getting the freeware you want. I use both, the end result is the same. £3 for a months subscription is reasonable even for one download IMO. Long live UKTS.
Well you're have to be offended then. Saying it's all great quality is like saying the sun rises in the west. Some of it is fantastic quality, some of it isn't; that's the nature of freeware and user generated content. You are right about UKTS pricing, an annual subscription is £17 and a pay as you go monthly is £2.50.
Personally I don't see why the layout of the site matters. It is a perfectly usable and easy to navigate download library. ATS is a good site no doubt but I don't see why there has to be any rivalry and "my site is better" egofest!
I am not personally offended, I am happy with my scenario creation, if someone doesn't like them then it is tough, I make them for my own amusement. However we should be grateful for whatever is created. Also, bare in mind UKTS has been going for many years and a lot of items in the library are very old and probably not up to the latest standards, but that is beside the point.
Honestly guys, get your creations on Alan Thomson Sim, he cares about TS. I've been through what UKTS has to offer, and as it currently stands, ATS has the better site, and better offerings. Only thing it lacks is a vibrant forum, which you guys could easily take care of.
Well I am pretty certain that Matt and Pete Peddleston care about trainsims too and judging by the members on the forums, there are many very passionate people. I am sure Alan Thomson doesn't have the monopoly on that!
