Depends on how many liveries you’ll create. If it’s just one custom livery and the default one then the only liveries that will spawn in regular service mode (not regular scenarios) are the default livery (or liveries as the AC4400 has 2), and the one (or ones) u created in a random order. If u wanna create a “special edition” train then u can just go to the scenario planner and from there make all the AI trains u want, and I believe u can choose the liveries for each train, and they’ll be specified in the default consist options for AI and your train. Otherwise I think they will spawn in a random order and you might see 2 of the “special edition” liveries in trains, but we’ll have to wait and see till the game is released to confirm.
But since the livery designer doesn’t show a box to type as many applicable road numbers to a specific train then I guess we’ll have to make multiple liveries, the only difference being a different number. For example I could have a BNSF livery for the GP38 and make a copy of it with the only difference being the numbers 2273 and 2377. So I think it’ll have to work like this if we want to make different road numbers for the liveries we create.
And that will be a pain to do because, as I currently understand, you would have to start each one from scratch because you can’t save your design, or parts of it, to copy over to another design to edit for a slightly different version. I hope I’m wrong about that but that’s my current understanding from the demo and q&a streams.
Yes, mine too. And just think about the hundreads of small numbers! So like information about the weight, the brakes,... on the outside of the train. They HAVE to have a solution for that, otherwise it wouldn’t fit with the 300 layers...
Same, nevertheless I would like to see how the livery designer turns out. We all will see when it launches Only 2 days until launch lads.
I just want the ability to create something new in the way of rolling stock liveries. I watched the stream about the livery designer, and then watched the live stream for the CSX Sandpatch Grade in TSW2. That intermodal train had nothing but CSX containers, when in reality, a real train would probably only a few with the home road logo. It would be nice to make a dozen or more different sea containers so the program can randomly place them in a train for more realism. This could also work for all types of rail cars. That way the trains, especially North American, can look more like the real thing.
Yea me too, although the logos would be a problem, or else a BNSF logo would look like regular text with a line under it. I hope I’m wrong since I was really looking forward to making BNSF grain cars and a GP38. BNSF
Shouldn't be any licensing issues if you create a box car, hopper car or sea container with a generic logo. Just something to add variety to the train. I enjoy the Oakville Subdivision DLC because I used to railfan that particular section of track in my younger days, and I worked 31.5 years at the Ford plant that is depicted in the game. So, I know for a fact, that there are a lot of autoracks from different railroads in the Oakville yard, with maybe 5-10% of the cars actually lettered for CN.
I hope DTG plans on making an update to the livery designer fonts so we can make locos like this, with some complex fonts.
If the UP flag turns out to be too complex, we could try out this alternate UP scheme for those planning on making a UP SD40 or AC4400CW:
And what loco would it fit with the most? Im thinking the ICE 3, but just for the speed as the design doesn’t seem to fit with this scheme imo, we need something that screams power, *wink wink
Been working a few minutes on the PS4 version of the game, was able to do this so far, though there are a few options and tools I wish we had to make this process a little easier (Stamp, custom in game decal creator, mirror). Also the projection settings suck for doing the front as the handrails are always painted. I'm gonna play around for 30 more minutes then sleep for work. EDIT: Well lost all my work due to a game crash, so that was nice.... Guess Ill try again after work either back on the PS4 or the PC version. However, US rolling stock is also paintable individually.
Bit the bullet and stayed up to do some more work, started on this before another crash, but luckily didn't lose much work due to more frequent saving.... Also did this real quick, one thing I noticed, is that a reskin will appear for all rolling stock of that type, unsure if you can have more than 1 reskin per rollingstock.
Loving what you're doing! For the hand rails - put the shape down for the main colour you want to apply, then put another shape down with a restricted projection that will just cover the hand rails. I experimented with this myself a while back and was able to make a nice blue AC4400 with bright pink handrails all around quite quickly (and yes, it was delightful to look at when done, slightly burning on the eyes, but that's why nobody lets me do anything involving colours ). Wagons - In service mode these are randomly swapped in, so if you have multiple liveries of the hopper, you'll get some of those plus the original one mixed along your train. My bright pink box cars looked stunning, if I do say so myself. Crashes - if you get any on PC please raise a support ticket, and if you can get repro steps for crashes on consoles that would be really handy - i've never had a crash myself but we knew the team who did the demo skins we showed in videos had one or two so definitely want to try and pin down what's going on here. Perhaps record a video while you use the tool and then if it crashes we can see what was happening at the time and try to find a common theme. Matt.
If the BR101 comes along it would work well on it... Fast, sleek, powerful, just like the Revenge Racer.
They all look really good! Can't wait to give it a go myself when it releases for PC in my time zone (4.5 hours from now)
Ok, I only did the custom scenarios so that's why I didn't see the mix, which I now see as I loaded up a Service in Timetable mode.
*GASP* So u can make a BNSF livery in TSW 2! I can’t wait to try this with the AC4400! I cannot wait any longer to get the game!!
Nice SP loco, will be trying this with the Union Pacific once I get the game, overall these are just stunning!
However I do have a suggestion for you: wouldn’t it look nice and extra prototypical if the loco was weathered, such as with some light brown patches? Idk if it can be done but it’s worth a try.
Soooo, I also wanted to share my progress! I started to paint an Abellio talent 2 about an hour ago, and this is where I am at now: Hope you like it! I’m going to share my progress later on, but for your projects remember: Save save save! My game crashed two times, but I only lost work from about two minutes Cheers!
WOW!!! That GT loco is amazing!!! Can you repaint the intermodal containers too, or just the well cars?
Here is a site for North American fans who want ideas/help creating their favorite liveries... DANG, some amazing repaints already- that GT loco! I've always wanted to try this by making a simple CP AC4400CW, because the specific details (headlight & numberboard placement) line up pretty nicely (I'm talking about the final 40 AC4400CW's, which have double headlights and everything, matching CEFX leasers) while theoretically being pretty easy (just red + text) I'll have to give it a shot later, when the game is downloaded. But I have... a different idea for the livery editor that I hope will be possible, and I hope people will enjoy. We'll see!
Hey folks, seen this thread and thought.. hey that's what iv been doing all day! First attempt at a livery. The yellow needs tweaking and I'm going to weather it abit but this editor certainly has potential! I have used Forza livery designer for years, very similar principles with this one but will take abit getting used to.
Sadly its just the well cars only EDIT: You also can't paint the plated sides of the autoracks either.
Thank you, trying to find a way to paint the handrails semi quickly, the ones on the back are now white and it looks really good but it's tough! Il stick another pic up when iv done abit more.
I have created a thread for in progress and completed designs, if anyone wants to share. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/livery-designer-creations.25311/
Well, I worked another 1 1/2 hour and have come so far: That’s almost the final version for the things that are within the editor at the moment, when more stuff is added I’ll update. Just the numbers aren’t finished, but I’ll get to that soon. Cheers!
Thanks for the info, will be using it as references for the liveries I’ll be creating! The only doubts I have is how am I going to recreate that CN&W logo under the cab, the UP flag, the CP “beaver” logo and the SP font.
Nice, the gray is spot on. As for the yellow yes it would need some tweaking in order for the loco to look as realistic as possible, but so far so good!
Awesome! I don’t know much about the trains in that country but the livery looks nice imo! I like the yellow and white mixture, but can anyone clarify how many fonts are there for text in TSW 2?
