If it was really scenery that came out on top, why would people spend thousands on a gaming pc when they could play it on their granny's intel atom laptop with 512mb ram

What came first the chicken or the egg?
Balance is right, you could have 60FPS but what would be fun about driving in a blank space. You could also have dense, luscious scenery but you wouldn’t want to be driving with 10FPS. It’s a balance. I think DTG struggled on their old routes with this especially on console. Learning to optimize over time I think it’s a good balance of a good amount of scenery while getting 30-50fps.

Most would say we have a balance but frame rate and stuttering/freezing still spoils the experience of speed and immersion

    Only if you let it!

There are limits to the consoles and the Unreal Engine 4 (which causes the stutters), until Epic Games actually help developers iron the stutters out, they are here to stay!

Immersion. Take Koln station's sights and sounds for example, then add cathedral bells and aircraft noise. Plenty going on and to discover.

You make fair comments but isn’t driving trains and that experience the most important part of the game? we don’t buy the game to walk around stations, that’s a nice bonus but not that important part of the game or the main focus

These are all things that greet you when you arrive here with your train, having negotiated the tricky signals and safety systems, barely able to snatch an external view. Makes it all worth the effort.

Or going the other way, you feel the atmosphere at the start of your driver shift.

Samo1 Pro-tip: don't debate every answer that comes in contrary to your own, or you'll put people off from answering. Let them be "wrong".

Also, the correct answer is "immersion" for your standard train simmer - they want to feel like they're there, doing it, smelling the grease, feeling the power of the machinery. Anything the software does or does not do to interfere with that feeling - be it control difficulty, pop-up menus, erratic framerate, frankly weird passengers, unconvincing sound, a lack of accurate scenery... the list is extensive - is a drag on the overall love for the game.

But that's just, like, my opinion.

Only the synchronisation between visually seeing the jet and hearing the noise is way off and if I'm being picky the bells are pretty random but never on the hour or half hour!
