This suggestion is for a route between London King's Cross/Moorgate/London St Pancras International to Cambridge including the Hertford loop. As this route is rather long, I have split it up into sections to provide further detail. All of these sections are electrified through AC overhead wires unless otherwise stated. Altogether, this route is around 86 miles. London St Pancras International to Finsbury Park This is a short spur off of the East Coast Main Line used by most Thameslink trains. This will not include the overground St Pancras International. Northern City Line (Moorgate to Finsbury Park) This section is a short 3.5 mile route running mostly underground. Today, it is run using class 717s operated by Great Northern. This section between Moorgate and Drayton Park is underground and electrified via a third rail. This means that when driving, the pantograph has to be raised/lowered at Drayton Park to switch to /from the AC overhead wires. This features six stations; Moorgate, Old Street, Essex Road, Highbury & Islington, Drayton Park and Finsbury Park. London King's Cross/London St Pancras International to Hitchin This section lasts for around 32 miles and features a variety of services, stopping, semi fast and express. It also features services from 5 operators, Great Northern, Thameslink, London North Eastern Railway (LNER), Hull Trains and Grand Central. The latter two are open-access operators with less than 5 trains per day in each direction, meaning that they will probably not be added into the game. This section is, for the majority, four tracks. This section features 18 stations; London King's Cross, Finsbury Park, Harringay, Hornsey, Alexandra Palace, New Southgate, Oakleigh Park, New Barnet, Hadley Wood, Potters Bar, Brookmans Park, Welham Green, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, Welwyn North, Knebworth, Stevenage and Hitchin. Hertford Loop (Alexandra Palace to Stevenage via Hertford North) This is a double-track, 24 mile section of track runs parallel to the East Coast Main Line between Alexandra Palace and Stevenage. Most of the services here are run by Great Northern and call at all stations, however this is sometimes used as a diversionary route for express trains during engineering works. There is also a reverse siding at Bowes Park, used by LNER services going into Bounds Green Depot. Until October last year, Great Northern Services were terminating at Watton-at-Stone (one stop south of Stevenage), as there was not enough time for services to turn around with only four platforms at Stevenage. Since then, platform 5 has opened at Stevenage, allowing services on this line to turn around without taking up space on the rest of the line. This section features 13 stations; Alexandra Palace, Bowes Park, Palmers Green, Winchmore Hill, Grange Park, Enfield Chase, Gordon Hill, Crews Hill, Cuffley, Bayford, Hertford North, Watton-at-Stone and Stevenage. Hitchin to Cambridge This is a double-track 26-mile section of route that is used by services on Great Northern and Thameslink. Most Great Northern services stop only at Cambridge along this route, on the route between London King's Cross to King's Lynn. There are also Greater Anglia and CrossCountry services that run from Cambridge, but diverge shortly. This route features 9 stations; Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City, Baldock, Ashwell & Morden, Royston, Meldreth, Shepreth, Foxton and Cambridge. Now, we will look at the rolling stock for this route. Class 700 This train is operated on all Thameslink services. They range from 8 car RLUs (reduced-length-units) to 12 car FLUs (full-length-units). These trains are operable on AC overhead wires and DC third rails, although on this route, they only operate on AC. This train has a maximum speed of 100mph (160km/h). Class 717 This train is operated on all Great Northern services. This train is very similar to the class 700, however the main difference is that the front has a door that can extend onto the tracks. This is used for emergencies in the tunnelled section of the Northern City Line. This train is operable on AC overhead wires and DC third rails and operates under both on this route. This train operates with 6 cars per unit and has a maximum speed of 85mph (137km/h). Class 91 + Mark 4 Carriages This is an electric locomotive used on some LNER services.. This train is operable on AC overhead wires only and has a maximum speed of 140mph (225km/h). Class 800/801 This train is a bi-mode DEMU, and have a maximum speed of 140mph (225km/h). They operate only on AC overhead wires on this route. Other rolling stock that operates on this route that may not be added into the game: Class 802 Class 180 Class 170 Class 317 Class 379 Class 745 Class 755 Services Thameslink Cambridge to Brighton (Cambridge to London St Pancras International) Cambridge to London King's Cross Peterborough to Horsham (Hitchin to London St Pancras International) Great Northern London King's Cross to Peterborough (London King's Cross to Hitchin) London King's Cross to Cambridge London King's Cross to King's Lynn (London King's Cross to Cambridge) Moorgate to Welwyn Garden City Moorgate to Stevenage via Hertford North London North Eastern Railway London King's Cross to Leeds/Skipton/Harrogate/Bradford Forster Square/Hull/York/Lincoln (London King's Cross to Stevenage)
