I know Sam already said we aren’t getting a Route Editor for TSW. But why? There’s already a Route editor/builder in Train Simulator, why cant we get one in TSW?

DTG has tried to bring it, but here’s the problem, it is incredibly complex and really difficult to implement into TSW, as it has far better graphics and runs on a different engine than TS. So DTG has to start over from the TS editor, and it may take up to 3 additional years for it to be completed. Not just that, but it’s only coming for PC, so consoles won’t get it. I’m guessing it’s because of the difference in processor power in consoles vs PC, but the next gen consoles are coming so I don’t see a reason not to bring it, but then again it may take 10 years to bring it to Xbox and even more time to bring it to ps4 as they’d have to start over with the controls and engines, which sucks as DTG doesn’t know the fate of TSW in the year 2045.

There are some articles in the TSW 2 section of dovetail live, which you could read and maybe there’s a far better explanation as to why DTG may take longer to get the editor into TSW and why it’s not coming to consoles, but you’ll have to scroll all the way down and go back a few pages.

Well, they could let PC players create the routes and sell/put them up for download on the consoles. (After checking for any game breaking bugs, viruses, etc.)

that's good, but how should we download the routes from some website where the routes are published?

It could be on the In-Game store.

I don't think that is an option unless you want content that their creators can't even test on all target platforms, which could be bad considering the apperent disparity of bugs between them.

As for the console editor. How would you bring in custom assets, make backups, etc.

But don’t all in app purchases have to be made through the Microsoft/PlayStation Stores on console? Unless DTG partners with them to allow users to sell their content, or make a type of “hub” kinda like the steam workshop in the dovetail store in game so players can share their content for download. But the players and their content would have to be approved so they’re not tryna release a cyber attack or anything when someone downloads the routes, for, public safety reasons.
