I currently own the Train Simulator 2020 game on steam, will I get the Train Simulator 2021 update for free?

Yes as you already own TS2020 on Sept 17th it will update to become TS2021, you will only need to pay for the new route being released.

Routes to be clear- buy TS2021 and all of the routes in the bundle would be added to your collection. The same may be said if you buy an older edition of TS if you can get a Steam key for one. It's a good way of building up a collection of routes relatively cheaply.

If you don't purchase anything then your Game Software will still be updated to TS2021 so everyone is using the same version

I heard about the free update - but I do not get any.
Started the games yesterday but gotten no update. How can I force the update? Any ideas?

    I am not totally sure...
I bought TS2020 and the account-password for it was set in 12/2019.... and that date fits with the folder-date on the harddrive.

I been looking for an option to force an update... been even wondering what would happen if I would safe the progress into Steam - then deinstall - reinstall....
I forgot that on the first posting... TS2020 was bought and installed via Steam

If you've got the menu screen with the Forth Bridge in the background you've got the update. Come to think of it the splash on startup should tell you.

The Forth Bridge has been on the TS2021 splash screen since launch but it does not prove you are on the latest version
The number pointed out above is the latest and, AFAIK it has changed since release of TS2021

I am sure about the version I have... TS2020.... and am wondering why I did not get the update.
Or where and how to force the update....

The way games on steam work, is if you have steam account, every time you log into the account - if there is an update (usually free) to the base code then you will automatically get the update.
If you work off line and do not log into steam then you won't get the update.
Please read above Woodland Tracks - open TS2020 (after logging into your Steam account) and tell us what version is displayed it should be v71.1.a.
Why do you think that your install was NOT updated?

No? OK. In my experience (over the last five updates) the new menu background has appeared only when the core has been updated but I'll be the first to admit that is just my experience.

Edit: Catching on now- this is all very well for the annual updates but intermediate updates are another matter. If anyone wants me I'll be over here.

Yes, the Splash Screen changes each time the Core engine has been updated but the Version as seen in the picture in post 9 changes each time DTG do an update between core releases.
I took this of my TS2020 screen on 24 June which shows v68.2 and now we are on v71.1
