    A dlc on the ecml seems to be a popular thought to most especially with the population of the much loved class 91 (has the best horn prove me wrong) a route from London King's Cross to Peterborough would be the longest route they have done.
    Trains that run
    Class 91 (London northeastern railway)
    Class 800 azuma (London northeastern railway)
    Class 66 (freightliner) (great British rail freight)
    Class 180(grand central)
    I believe the route would be amazing and popular

    I'm all over this mate. Could do it as 2 era's. Your modern suggestion as well as a late 70's version with Class 55's. Take it to York and then could do another route Leeds to Darlington and link up with Tees Valley and Trans Penn.
