Union Pacific is one of the largest class one railroads today. Union pacific is know for it's amazing locomotives such as Big Boy and the GTEL. The section of the transcontinental railroad is from Cheyenne to Rock Spings in Wyoming during the end of the steam era. The route may not be the most interesting or the most challenging shoud satify some people. The route is 245 miles which could be a bit large for the sim.

The Union Pacific's Northerns the FEF series was used for fast passenger trains a total of 44 locomotives were made 800-844. They were made to safely run at 120 mph but Steve Lee said no one really knew the top speed. Every now and then they would pull freight.

The five classes of challengers CSA-1 3900-3914, CSA-2 3915-3939, 4664-3 3950-3969, 4664-4 3975-3999, and the 4664-5 3930-3949. The challengers main job was the heavy freight trains and the fruit blocks. The challenger would also haul passenger trains. Many classes of challenger were remade to take oil instead of coal and they were renumbered to 38XX. They could opoerated at 70 mph.

The Big Boy was made to reduce the time of adding and removing locomotives from heavy trains. They did not need to double head or need helpers on the grades. The Big Boy could operate at 80 mph. Big boy did not haul passenger trains.

The final locomotives would be the First and Second Gen Gas Turbines. The gas turbines would work with the Big Boys and Challengers on longer heavy trains. They would enventualy replace the steam locos for good.

Most rolling stock explains it self but if you wand more info on cars go ahead and ask in the comments.

The route can bring some new experinces to the sim such as loading coal and water. The route again might not be made for high speed but it has something for most people.

Honestly, a better choice for something UP related would be Evanston, WY to Rock Springs, WY. That route is about 100 miles (Therefore you don't have to sacrifice as many frames) and has the massive Evanston shops for locomotive servicing. And it still has some Big Boy/Turbine operating territory.

The Big Boys (If I remember correctly) actually originated operations around the Salt Lake area and then it extended out to Cheyenne when the Big Boy's power was recognized. This included operations around Evanston and Rock Springs.

Sherman Hill in the 1950s would be great for TSW. Locos needed are Big Boys, Challengers, FEFs, the GTELs, and maybe a GP7/9 or an SD7 (UP had a few). The route needs passenger and freight services.

A modern version needs an ES44AC or ET44AC (or both), an SD70ACe (including the Heritage units), an SD70M (w/ flared radiators), an SD90MAC, an SD60M, or maybe an SD40-2, SD45, or GP60.
