I note that the UKtrainsim forum is currently inaccessible, and was wondering if anyone knew the reason for this and how long the forum might be down for?
It has been down for several days now, does anyone know why? If i go to http://uktrainsim.com and click on Forums i get: Not Found The requested URL was not found on this server.
The previous post in this thread was 05 Aug Have a read of this one instead https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/ukts-forums.24877/page-4
Sorry for the late reply, i found that thread a couple of second after i posted here. Thanks for your answer!
I'm getting the error message '503 - Service Unavailable' whenever I try to download anything, which is quite annoying.
Seems ok today - I'm using Firefox The site is now https://www.uktrainsim.com/ - if you are still on http://www.uktrainsim.com/ that might stop it working Peter
If you asked the people who use it regularly, rather then the occasional visitors like you, they might disagree with you.
The regulars love it and will beat down on anyone that disagrees without haste. Shame really, as train simming should be accessible to anyone interested.
From my own user experience. Critical minds are not welcome, I could dig out the thread here from a few weeks ago, but I feel it's a pointless exercise. When it's a welcoming place, I'll be there too.
It's hard becoming a regular when its instantly assumed you're there nefariously, 7 posts in and I'm still on pre mod. I've never come across such a restrictive new member set up in over a decade of foruming. No access to search, no access to viewing your own posts, 10kb avatar limit, and pre approval by of every post.. Yeah, really welcoming..
Fortunately you don't have to put up with all the drivel you get here when on UKTS. You ask a question and somebody will know the answer With the help of somebody from UKTS I have this coach on my Pendolino Peter
As it stands Peter, I've managed to build a ballast tamper from scratch without leaning on other people, and here, I aim to offer as much guidance and expertise as I can offer to any other train simmers in need of a lift. This is DTG's website and forums after all, this should be the home of the creative community. It's nice that you have your well guarded club, power to you and all the UKTS crew. Wish you were more inviting and friendly, I'd likely be a part of that crew if it were so, but alas, it is not the place for newcomers. That said, it's good that you are a regular here, 'cus I'd miss the banter if you weren't about
DR I visit and post regularly on UKTS because it has the best TS technical resources bar none. I have never felt unwelcome on that forum. I have been helped many times - even when I ask the simplest rudimentary questions. I have been admonished on a couple of occasions, but hey, 'sticks and stones . . . Yes, there are some acerbic characters but that makes it interesting and lively. The UKTS file library has no equal in terms of downloads, another reason for using the forums. Try it again and give as good as you get! As an aside are you going to send your resume to RIVET games (no vacancies at present) but receiving resumes, and with your experience you would be an asset (IMO).
Thanks PH, I'll give it a go on your recommendation at some point. It would be interesting working for Rivet, and I imagine they have a great number of resources available to pull at, which I would really enjoy. However, my plan at present is to build a lot of high detail locos for TS under RailPunk, and build its reputation based on releasing bits of kit that wouldn't ordinarily get a look in but are or have been mainstays of our rail network. I've about finished modelling the ballast tamper, and based on the idea that steam engines function beautifully within the TS engine, after I've built the cabs, I'm going to get the ballast tamping kit operational using a slow speed control and what would normally be used for piston and conrod animations. Hopefully will be able to factor some kind of shock vibration into the vehicle as it pounds away at the rocks. Might be quite interested in working with Rivet with a view that some loco's I build could be included within their excellent routes. That would be a pretty cool partnership
