Underpowered Dovetail 52

    According to the display the Dovetail Class 52 only goes up to 1500 bhp and it shows. It is ridiculously underpowered. It should go up to 2000 bhp.
    Can it be tweaked?

    BTW I ran the Western Hydraulics 52 and the AP 52, both got up to max at 1500 bhp.
    If you like the 52 get the ArmstrongPowerhouse soundpack, not only do you get realistic sounds but also some blue liveried 52s.

    I was not sure if the OP meant the TSW version - hence my question of "Which Dovetail Class 52"
    Might have meant the OBB one on the ELAP :D

    That's the one.
    Brian Reed states in Diesel Hydraulic locomotives of the Western Region, p69, that the rated power of *each* engine was 1380bhp to a total output of 2700bhp, although in fact Swindon recorded 1380 per engine, 2760bhp total.
    The model is way underpowered, as if it is running on one engine only.

    I can now confirm that the other 52 model also only reaches 1500 bhp - in other words a type 4 with type 2 power. How can you raise this issue with Dovetail?

    Actually the 1500 shewn on the HUD isn't BHP but RPMs, which is correct. However, anyone driving it can feel it is ridiculously underpowered. Try driving it in comparison with a Warship model; they are much more powerful, and oughtn't to be.

    I have tried out the 52 from the HYD set and it seems to be fully powered. Only the one sold separately that has the problem.

    I have now made further tests and discovered that what appears to be the result of the loco being under-powered is actually due to the consist. I detached it on the move and the loco speeded up mightily.
    It is a consist I made up myself in the editor. It is fine with the consists it came with.
    So what is wrong here?

    Sometimes the drag of the train is set up wrong and sometimes the coach/wagon brakes don't release as they should.
    Somebody on UKTS noticed the coach brakes on the Stainmore route were not releasing.

    If you have both Class 52's, stand alone and Western Hydraulics Pack, try them with the same coaches on level track.
