Looking forward to this route but waiting to hear how exactly console versions will be affected with the service layers as mentioned on Wednesday’s stream. I’ve double dipped with TSW so it might be the case that I just buy this route only on my laptop and wait to see how the game will perform on PS5.
Woow, that was quick! I hope there will soon be clarity about the 'layers' thing. Hope they found a solution without having to 'turn off' certain content
Listening to what Sam said in tonights stream, I wouldn't be supprised if it releases with no extra layers activated for the time being. And once they have a solution for the problem, it'll come in a later patch
I like the look of the route but the layers on console issue bothers me slightly. I'll wait to see what they do about it before buying. I work hard for my money and gone are the days of buying everything day one.
It does bother me a bit too. I hope it gets resolved as fairly and we'll as possible as otherwise it's just shame but there is nothing much to do about it unless they will find the solution, if they do. So it's a tricky position and possibly can limit things I'm the future on consoles and that's worrying. I still buy it when it comes out, been saving for it. Otherwise on a stream it did look great and I'm very excited about it.
This is something I've noticed more and more recently from the community (and rightly so) There is a point when people will get fed up of being let down on release after release. Especially as only a week before this release, they do a stream saying they are still not sure what to do with the layers issue. Although, at least they are being upfront, rather than saying it's all sorted, when it's not yet. People are enticed into buying with all the pre release teasers, only to quite often find glaringly obvious issues. Fingers crossed they have worked something out for the layer system.
It seems that most if not all new routes have issues (understandable), people complain and DTG acknowledges the issues and fixes them. That's all well and good but I think it gives DTG a "free pass" of sorts to put out incomplete routes (but which are playable) because they know people will buy them and once the issues/bugs are picked up on, they then look into fixing them.
Yes, look at the preserved collection, it appears the plan from a certain point was to knowingly release them, bugs and all, then address afterwards. Although to be fair, I think they did say there were some unforeseen issues when they began to move them over to tsw 2 The problem is, as more content comes out, the list of bug fixes gets longer, (unless maybe it's a core bug that will fix across the board)
I hope they solve the layer issue in that way, that we can have around 6 to 8 locos, emu's and cabcars in timetable modeat the same time, so that we could choose. So at one time we could use 403, 423, dostos, 146, 185.2 and 185.5. At on another time we could use 403, 423, 422, 425, 185.2 and 182.
Yeah, that would be a great compromise. May even be a good option for PC too, I'm sure there are people playing on PC who don't have a top of the range build. So going forward, it could help more than just console.
Talking about possible limitations on this route, which may present on one platform or another - I’d strongly suggest you read the post by DTG Protagonist in this thread very *very* carefully, especially if the end result is the route ships with a limitation still in place. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/dtg-communication-and-transparency.28797/
Exactly - and if the planned enhancements to the layering system are not actually written on the roadmap at the moment you purchase the route, you must work on the basis that they will never be delivered.
