Just been going through the monster sale and saw the 59/2... I thought "I like that", but didn't realise I already had it until I checked my library!!! Which brings me onto my question: Does anyone know if there is a good quality reskin of the National Power 59/2's and associated wagons??? I remember photographing them back in the day, being impressed by their impressive bold colours... I'd also be interested of the equivalent ARC 59/1's (don't know if there's any difference between them apart from the liveries / numbers) Thanks in advance Eric
Hi Eric. Personally, I'm not aware of any National Power reskins for the Class 59. However, I can point you in the direction of a pretty nice freeware ARC reskin (by Ashlightfoot) of the 59 - that hopefully you might enjoy. Direct link given below: https://alanthomsonsim.com/?download=class-59-arc-livery
This is the readme from the ARC Class 59 file: Class 59 ARC Installation First you MUST extract all files out of the .AP File located in the Class 59 folder. BEFORE you follow the steps below otherwise the reskin wont work Once you have done the above steps copy and paste the Assets folder into your Train simulator installation folder SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\RailWorks and then run the included .BAT File which should then install everything correctly. Requirements Dovetail Games Class 59 available from Steam Credits Ash Lightfoot - Creator Without wishing to sound like a total dunce, could somebody kindly tell me where I could possibly find the mythical .AP file??? I've looked & looked & looked but can't find it... Is it a case of incorrectly written instructions??? Thanks in advance Eric (Think I'll start calling myself Mr Incompetent...!!!)
You'll find it in the 'Class59Pack01' assets folder under 'DTG', under 'Assets' i.e. .................:\Railworks\Assets\DTG\Class59Pack01\Class59Pack01Assets.ap You can extract the .ap file contents using 7-zip, WinRar or equivalent. Hope that helps.
Just wondering can you see the file extensions, (like the .exe after the RailWorks icon in your RailWorks folder i.e. RailWorks64.exe) If not then you need to "show filename extensions" by clicking on your File Explorer folder (icon looks like this ) and then click on the view tab and then checkmark as shown in the image below. Then you will see what ones are .ap files as explained further up the thread..
Mike / Reef... thanks so much for your help so far... Despite following your advice I still couldn't find the mythical .AP file... Got so frustrated with it in the end I said b****ks to it & just copied the assets file from the 59 folder into my railworks folder and then ran the .BAT file... Nothing untoward appeared to happen anyway so I then went to look for it in TS... Went into QD to make a custom consist and hey presto, there it was "Class 59 ARC"... I was well impressed, I clicked on it but then I got the grey box that the loco should be in with a blue circle that's just going round & round & round... The weight & length dimensions have come up on the bottom of the screen but theres no picture of the 59... Does this matter or will it not work??? Sorry to be a proper pain in the b**t... Eric
Update: Enclosed screenshot... Here you can see the glory of the ARC 59 at Paddington... Well the couplers anyway...!!! Eric
That's because the geopcdx (the file that details the outline of the unit) isn't being found. You should make sure that the batch file has been copied correctly you can do this manually... Go to your railworks folder then assets/DTG/Class59Pack01/RailVehicles/Diesel/Class59/Default Find the geopcdx and copy it (right click, copy or click it ONCE then CTRL + C) Go back one folder then into the ARC folder (so the top folder is now assets/DTG/Class59Pack01/RailVehicles/Diesel/Class59/ARC) paste the GeoPcDx in here (right click paste or CTRL + V) The file should appear Go back into TSx and you should be good to go
I'm jealous... when I go into my files, I get as far as assets/DTG/Class59Pack01/RailVehicles/Diesel/Class59/ but then instead of Default that you can get, I get ARC and cannot find the GeoPcDx file anywhere... I love TS but this side of it drives me round the twist!!! Eric
if you go here: do you see the AP file? If so, you want to extract that file using a tool like 7Zip. Or open it up in 7Zip file manager. Then you can browse and find the GeoPcDX file and copy it into your ARC reskin.
Mike / ARuscoe / Reef / Pookyhead & Andy... thank you so much to you all for your suggestions... Have finally cracked it after reading Pookyhead's suggestion on the "Monster Sale" thread (don't ask - I digressed slightly on the topic!!!)... Here is the result!!! I'm indebted to you all... Eric
Sounds to me like you don't have the original DTG 59 installed. Go to your steam client and make sure you've got the 59 installed
It's there, I'm sure of it, however I've just noticed that my screenshot above still has the numbers 59201 on it... Looking at the example on the ATS site the picture on there is exactly the same... I can live with it but would be nice if it can be corrected especially to show the cast plate side numbers on the cab... Eric
I dropped two randoms in and they're different numbers with different plates on. I would suggest double clicking the loco in scenario editor and changing the number, should auto change the plates from what I can see
Can anyone kindly confirm whether the engine sounds in the 59 are the same as the 66??? I've got a hair brained idea that if they have [the 59's & 66's] then swapping the engine sounds for the F40PH to make it correct as they [the 59's & F40PH's] use the same engines... Am I being sensible or not??? Eric
They should not be but I don't think there is much in it. - Try searching on Youtube for videos of both and compare The Class 59 has an EMD 16-645E3C which is a 16 Cylinder engine The Class 66 has an EMD 12N-710G3B-EC which is a 12 Cylinder engine The EMD SD40-2 or the F40PH have the same engines as the 59 It is not just simply moving the sound files as the might have different names Peter
