Parry People Movers Nº 35 at Wirksworth (image source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parry_People_Movers) What is it? The Class 139 is a class of British mini-railcars, built in 2008 for them to run on the Stourbridge Town Branch Line. There was also a prototype, called Class 999. A Class 139 on display, sitting on top of a flatbed hauled by a Scania truck, 50033 can be seen in the background, in the BR Blue Large Logo livery. (image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_139) More Information: With the prototype Class 999, three of the class were built. London Midland are using them. Parry People Movers are thought to have intended to use a variation of the PPM60 model, called the PPM220, to bid for the contract to build a small fleet of experimental trains for use on the Penistone Line, and for the new generation diesel multiple units, intended as part of the Government's rolling stock plan. This will involve an articulated unit, with a pair of PPM60s on either end of a fixed passenger unit. The whole unit will have a capacity of up to 220 passengers and will be able to travel 60mph (100km/h) on railways and 50mph (80km/h) on tramways. The Penistone trial was however canceled, before a bidder was selected, and was replaced with an electric Rotherham-Sheffield trial, in September 2009. Inside a London Midland Class 139 rail-bus. (image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_139) What does it run on? It doesn't run on on diesel fuel, but on LPG. The unit uses a flywheel energy storage to recapture and supply the motive force for moving the vehicle. The concept is simple; the flywheel captures the vehicle's kinetic energy when brakes are used, and re-uses the energy for acceleration. The small engine is used to provide the flywheel and all other onboard systems electricity. Class 999 Prototype seen approaching Stourbridge Town. (image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_139) Why for Train Simulator? Even though the Stourbridge Town Branch Line isn't in Train Simulator, I would enjoy driving it around any UK-themed map. I think this small railcar should definitely be made for Train Simulator. ■ Thanks for reading! Disclaimer: I do not own any of the media shown here, nor do I claim to. Don't get me wrong; I'm not advocating against it going into the game; every train deserves its place in the sim. I just think it's ugly but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Who "wouldn't", and why? Honestly, why would you not want to see this in TS?? I'm generally clueless.
ive seen these things before, but that first picture for quite a while had my brain ticking over thinking. why is a hover bus on train simulator forum.. then I noticed the rails it'd be a nice route for class 121 or 03.. not exactly fond of the railbuses themselves but the route would be great.. them irish railbuses ones are closer to my heart
Hover bus... that'd be difficult to recreate in TS! Yeah, but the 121 and 03 are already in TS. Irish railbuses, you mean something like this? Well, it's just I would like to see the 139 and/or Stourbridge Town Line.
Of course, to achieve 100% authenticity, the Stourbridge Town Line would also need to be made, but I wouldn't mind just driving it on the Trent Valley route (if I owned it), as both the 350 and the 139 are London Midland.
Seems a bit excessive for a 1 mile line with no points or crossings - journey time is 3 mins - Scenario Over
£4.99, then. Also, I think it's all about the atmosphere, and what you link with the line. If I lived in Stourbridge, and I'd see these trains run every day, I'd be delighted if this route would actually be made for TS, no matter what the duration of it is.
This should be on train simulator 2020 I have been on this twice now first was in 2015 and now in 2020 I think this go ahead after all it will just be a simple line and not long to do.
So you get in you train, take the brakes off, go to the next station and that is it - scenario over. What do you do then? The trains don't work on the mainline so there is nowhere for your train to go If would cost a huge amount of money to develop the route and train for very little return.
I think it would be a nice addition for a very small price, maybe £7.99. There are a lot of odd little railways dotted around both now and historically that would be nice to see in TS. Narrow gauge, and tramways are really lacking in content.
Nice suggestion 52_Western, have been on one of them great fun and so different, what do you like about the class 139?
Hi Jamie, I like the 139. It would be so cool! Its quirky, unique and original, and would add a great laugh and many hours of more fun to the sim, just because it is different. :-D
Only just now saw your post! Well, I'm glad you like the suggestion. I've never seen the 139 in real life, I've only ever seen pictures and videos of it online. What I like about it is just how unique it is. It's so small, it's basically an Optare Solo midibus, but on rails! I honestly think it's brilliant.
This would be cool if it was part of a greater route, like a small thing you can do a scenario or two for.
