Hi - I'm trying my hand at scenario planner on the West Somerset line and am confused by the terms 'Southbound Down to Up' and 'Southbound Down to Down', and similar. In trying to research it before posting here, it seems that the 'up' and 'down' roughly relate to 'heading towards' and 'heading away' from London respectively, but not always. Because a lot of that line is single track, in an attempt to understand how all this works I've been creating off the rails scenarios where I'm starting at one end and the AI train is starting at the other, with each of us stopping at every station. My goal is to get it so that the AI train has to wait for me to pass (i.e. I get through a double-track segment before the AI does, meaning he has to wait until the single track is free again. However, no matter which direction I start from, I'm always the one doing the waiting, and I think it has to do with this up/down business. Sometimes, the AI train hasn't even reached the double track segment yet and I still have to wait, watching him pass through the double-track station and then enter the long single-track segment that i'm waiting to enter. Anyone able to offer an explanation? Thanks.
Just try it and see at which platforms you need to stop. You cannot just create an interesting scenario without some research upfront. You may want to read the Scenario Planner Guide for help on how to do that. Download it here: https:/www.hollandhiking.nl/trainsimulator
I haven't tried the scenario planner but on the WSR Up is in the direction of Bishops Lydeard and down is the direction of Minehead.
