DTG, could you please remove those annoying popup windows. I usually don't leave my cab seat often, but I just did a run on the West Somerset Railway, with a timetable that has plenty of waiting time at the stations, and I lost count on how many of those annoying popup windows I got confronted with. Just give us an option in the menu to give up a service for those who want, but please do not use popups.
Agreed. An option for it in the menu would be much better. No need to wait for minutes when you want to give it up, and no annoying popups when you don't want to.
I agree. An option in the menu would allow you to give up control without waiting, while removing the popups would provide benfits for routes like WSR where you may look around the stations while stopped.
This happened to me on Bakerloo line some days ago. I was at the secondlast station and was walking around in the cab, when I was asked if I want to leave the train. But I was just pressing a button in the cab when It appeared, so I pressed yes.... So the service was lost and I can start all over again...
Agreed, you can assign a button to it or do it in the settings menu. No ned t ask me, I never will give up a train once I got it to drive!
I hope that's sarcasm, because any decent programmer should be able to do it pretty easily. Even if UI is not your specialisation, if you're a programmer you can figure it out, especially if it's already there and you just need to copy and paste a button, basically.
We have a situation where if you don’t want to give up a service you get nagged and if you do want to give up a service (or end a service after ‘return to free roam’) the pop-up does not appear. One pop up, which will at least soon default to ‘no’ to avoid accidental ending of sessions, should be sufficient. If you click ‘no’ it should not come up again. An option to give up a service but stay in the world should be added and should be accessible at any time you are on foot, probably best via the pause menu. This isn’t the first time these things have been suggested and it probably won’t be the last.
If he can't manage the button perhaps he'd like to redo the West Somerset flag. Just asking for a friend...
After short period of time if you have not moved your train it will trigger thinking that you do not want this service.
It is an excuse DTG has used for why things like RailDriver support and the ability to change key bindings isn't in the game despite the technical work on it being finished. I believe in the past they've claimed they don't have a UI artist to work on it, which caused quite a bit of gnashing of teeth in parts of the community.
This is correct, the only problem is that it triggers on me most of the time when I leave the cab to couple or uncouple cars. It is a total pain in the bu++.
Agreed. In timetable/service mode, there should be an option in the pause menu to give up the service. Like how in other open-world games there are options to quit the current mission. I can see why the developers would think the pop-up was a good idea in theory, but in practice, it never pops up when you want it to, and always pops up when you don't (like right as you're using a controller's A or X button to flip a switch or uncouple cars).
The annoying thing is when you actually WANT to give up your service, the pop up doesn’t appear sometimes. So the train gets stuck and you cannot continue doing what you want to do. There should really be a key bind or option to give up your service or not as opposed to waiting for a pop up message, which may or may not appear.
I especially hate it on Sand Patch Grade, as I usually walk to the rear of the train to check and make sure the locos are setup for DPU service, and I'm usually asked it while walking back and forth between both ends.
I went off to check something in the Newhaven aggregate yard when my train started moving, gathering speed toward the hoppers. I thought at first I might have forgotten the brakes and had a runaway. Somehow I must have managed to miss the pop up and lost control of the train. It was very tricky jumping back in the cab and I couldn’t take take back control until it had finished loading up. I was in such a state anyone would think it was happening in real life.
yes or no, unclear what's meant, but being stuck with a window full of warning triangles made me give up CSX
100% I'm on the give it a keybind train. Whenever you want to give a service up, it doesn't pop up, whenever you're just getting collectibles or uncoupling/coupling or anything else and want to continue with the service, it pops up every 30 seconds! Keybind please!!!!! Also maybe this should be moved to the suggestions forum, or someone should make a "keybind for giving up service" thread in the suggestions forum?
Yes I agree, when you want to give it up you seem to wait for ages for the message to appear. When you don't want to give it up and go for a walk down the platform, the message seemingly pops up very quickly! So yes an option to give it up when you want would be great.
If a keybind is added to give up a service, I'd like to have a confirmation pop-up first. Wouldn't want to accidentally press the wrong button and instantly have given up my service. Personally I think an option in the menu would be pretty fine, as it can't be pressed accidentally as easy as a simple keybind, and I don't think giving up services is something you'd want to do very frequently. Although the poll option was initially added as kind of a joke, if the results are anywhere near reliable it seems the majority of people press NO and do not want to give up their service. Personally I have never had the desire to give up a service, as driving the trains is my main purpose of this game. I don't know how many people do actually give up their service for whatever reason they may have. I don't know if DTG Live login collects this kind of data.
Honesty just let them add it to the esc menu, this will be most intuitive for everyone I believe. This should also reduce the chance of randomly hitting a shortcut anyway. BTW, had the same issue as you last week, but I got away lucky. Was running about in WSR waiting for the departure time and messing with an AI train that was stood next to me. Wanted to klick a button when immediately this window popped up. Must have clicked 2 or 3 pixels above the abandon button and my heart skipped a beat, as I was at the second last stop and invested 1:20h at this time. Who thought that would be great game design...
Hey, I saw on the Roadmap that the default behaviour of the pop-up will be changed. It feels a little bit as if a community suggestion was taken onto the list in the last minute
It's the sand patch where it's annoying and they expect you to uncouple the rear banking locos etc... Half way there you get it and half way back too lol. Luckily theyre changing the default to No
Apologies my friend, but that has been on there since mid-September! https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/train-sim-world/articles/article/tsw2-roadmap15sept
