This could either be really disappointing or really cool. Does anybody have any ideas? I doubt it'll be multiplayer, and I'm certain it's not a full route or scenario editor. I think it's a battle royale mode.
I heard in a stream they are considering (if it's not on the roadmap it's not happening) a change in the way the tracks are generated which will improve a lot memory usage. IMO is going to be either that, or something related to PIS and Destination Screens or even a sort of a super substitution only available to the player which can allow us to run every train for every service or something along those lines
So it’s something we *should* see by Christmas, and appear on the roadmap fairly soon. I have a feeling it’ll appear once preserved collection and a few of the bugs fixes are out of the way. Just a guess but maybe it’s a proper passenger information system with proper announcements at stations and on trains?
Considering that he's a community director, I would expect something on the front end. Something that will be very noticable by a large part of the community so nothing technical. I hope that sounds clear.
TSW 3? Oh man, so exited I know, that's not it - a very interesting puzzle. Some social options maybe, since it's Sam's fault.
My guess is passengers. Not only add models and variety, if not animations and stuff... Of course someway that consoles can handle. EDIT: I saw in another thread passengers are not a priority at the moment.
It may be something to do with the new consoles considering they will be capable of doing more. Maybe merging RRO and RSN, a formation editor, working toilets. That last one may be too ambitious. We know that some stuff like the BR 420 is in production despite it not being on the roadmap for some reason so it's anyone's guess. But hopefully whatever it actually is, is worth speculating about.
Hope it’s not multiplayer. We don’t need another memory sucking layer added to the mix. Given his background it’s probably in the manual/maps field.
RRO + RSN = <3 <3 <3 Working, fully animated toilets... You know - all these important animations. Don't worry. They are not good actors. When they reply, it won't come soon, I rather believe them.
Route merging would be cool to see, that is one I'm really hoping for that it will come one day. Still I don't think it would come too soon, as it will put a lot of load on Consoles. RRO and RSN together is a route of 42 + 61 = 103 km, with RRO S-Bahn strecke included. That is VERY long in TSW2 terms. Yes it would be cool, but I highly doubt it, sadly.
Route merging is a cool idea, but now that TSW has a scenario planner, how necessary is it? For example, if you want to drive the length of RRO and RSN you can just create a scenario for each, a Part I and a Part II.
Multiplayer was just my initial guess but it could be anything really. It’s top of the wish list but isn’t passengers. What else has been at the top of wish lists for players and therefore would be a big project for DTG? Steam trains, multiplayer, better 2D map, on train announcements, video tutorials, controllers, content sharing. Which of these, or something else, would include Sam as a big part of it? If it’s something that has been developed as a test for a closed beta and Sam’s involvement is in gathering the test results as feedback into the playability of it, then it could be steam or multiplayer. It could be a multi-platform bespoke controller for TSW, like Raildriver but specifically engineered to work with any train in TSW on both PC and consoles, and that’s in testing. If it’s another of his many talents in use it could be some video tutorials with real train drivers with Sam as a host. All as unlikely as they are likely and pure baseless speculation. It could be the early days of something big that hasn’t been guaranteed to work so hasn’t made it to the roadmap but now it’s getting there, hints are being dropped. Or it could be something small and we are getting over excited as usual. PS... I hope it’s not multiplayer. And thanks to Doomotron for turning my reply on another thread into this thread, has saved me the job
Definitely toilets. Sam mentions that at least once a stream. Seriously though, I think it might be steam trains. If it is steam trains, hopefully a whole route of steam trains, not as a separate loco DLC.
Out of stujoy's list: I would say it's either Steam trains or Train announcements. Those two are the "easiest" to make for DTG. Still, I won't hype myself up too much. I will only believe something when it's either confirmed or on the Roadmap QUICK EDIT: it could also be the Tutorials, as that has been confirmed it's being worked on. But I doubt that is the "Big Christmas Surprise" we are talking about here.
I seriously doubt Steam will come to TSW 2 as it was mentioned earlier in the year that TSW would require 'another update' to support Steam. That translates to me as TSW 3/another UE4 update, which we know isn't free anymore due to the work required to make it work.
In one of their early Roadmap streams. I can remember it now coming out of, I believe, Matt's mouth. Forgot about that Steam Trains would require an extra update to the game's core.
Thats a good point, but maybe they find a way to bring us steam trains without any mayor update. What where the top prioritys for the comunity?
I've said this elsewhere, but if its anything i believe it will be on board train announcements. Why i think this? A while back a Geoff Marshall made a video in which he went to the DTG offices and done some stuff. This stuck me as odd, as Geoff isnt the video game type of person. Also, with the corona pandemic going on, visiting a office and doing as he did is most likely not a good idea, and he knows that as can be seen in other videos where he takes ample precautions with not visiting places that are busy. The only reason i could think he would do that is if there was another reason for him to be there which brings us onto point 2. A few years back (2018 i believe) Geoff was "the voice of GWR christmas" which shows he will do and has done voice announcements. A route that is in the pipeline to come out soon is GWE, which is of course a GWR route which makes his voice not too out of place on the line, as it has been used before for audio announcements. Anyhow, thats my rant over
I thought Sam said Tuesday's stream that Mike was doing the manuals? I'll go out on a limb and say he's doing the anticipated toilet and snack bar feature that we all desperately need and want.... My serious thought? Perhaps something to do with community challenges/logbook etc. Maybe some sort of online database where we can see global scores and can challenge each other. Or perhaps a step towards the "multilayer" direction in terms of forming your own groups/companies where you can "sign on" and log your activity via Dovetail Live but much more in depth.
What about the possibility of sharing Scenarios create in the scenario editor, or Livery created in the Livery Editor, and maybe both
Ehhh, Sam has been pretty clear that Livery sharing is not coming anytime soon due to legal issues and concerns around allowing people to share what could be license breaking/trademark infringing liveries directly through the game.
Okay okay, hear me out guys... What if perhaps all this buzz is maybe, just maybe to help hype up the new and improved Mastery for TSW2? *takes cover*
I’m hopeful you’re all completely wrong, and it’s that their work on the core has allowed them to finally sort the shadow draw distance and lighting problems. That would be a HUGE step forward.
I can't see it being steam engines, although I would love it to be so. I do seem to recall them saying that TSW2 would enable them to have a base to introduce steam, although others have said there needs to be another update so maybe I am getting confused. I can't see it being TSW3 yet, that wouldn't go down well so soon after TSW2, unless it was a free upgrade and wasn't going to break anything else. I suspect manuals or tutorials, which whilst being a good thing as the sim is lacking a little in that department, it will be a bit of an anti-climax. Any "big announcement" for anything in life turns out to be a disappointment though!
Flashback to when FellowsFilm (one of the main UK forums for OMSI) hyped up a major announcement with everyone getting excited. Turned out to be a Euro Truck Sim 2 giveaway.
Also, Sam has repeatedly said that there's not going to be a TSW3 (not anytime soon anyway). I highly doubt it, given not everything has come from TSW2020 yet and they're building stuff for TSW2. Announcing TSW3 would make TSW2 a pointless waste of time, and I think if it is that, this community will be in uproar I imagine.
IMO we aren’t going to see steam for 18 months at the earliest, probably incorporating a core update and some work on motion blur. My guess is some kind of steam workshop type thing for scenarios and maybe V2 of the scenario planner. If we can start making scenarios similar to the way we can in TS it’ll make a big difference in the long term.
Yep. After the FellowsFilm thing I referenced earlier, I've been trying my best to avoid hype until something gets announced.
Before this thread was introduced, I had no idea Sam has some "dark" secrets. For me, even a little and unexpected feature will be a nice addition \o/
