    If you ever wondered why the modern german locomotives and high speed trains produce those special engine transition and musical sounds, being the BR182 one of the most extreme cases, the reason is the variable frequency drive. This is very well explained in the following article:

    Once funny detail about this is that, with a special maintenance software, ICE3 trains can produce the German national anthem :D

    I just checked out the link and all of the videos... found a great explanation on how it can all sound very ‘musical’ at times as traction control is applied to the various traction motors. Very interesting read... thanks for posting this info!
