On a side note, wonder how much work would be needed to convert this model to a 9000s series CSX Dash 9, AFAIK they use mostly the same Carbody as the Dash 8. (Compred to other Dash 9 models)

I have no idea the C40-8W has this horn (K5LA) but I very much hope it won't be a today's SPG "placeholder" :)

Which (in TSW) the AC44 almost sounds like a vacuum cleaner. And the horns (depends on the livery), is sometimes buggy. So hopefully the Dash 8 has better sounds than ones currently on the Sanpatch Locos from the Heavy Haul days (as in the 1.0 version of SPG).

As we don’t have pictures of the cab yet, I’m expecting something quite different to the AC4400. I could do with a loco to substitute for the AC due to its dynamic brakes not working properly yet. Another DLC to put on the future purchases list or possibly one to get on release if the live streams look favourable. There are a lot of services I haven’t done yet waiting for the brake fix and I could use this instead.

Which is reasonable and understandable, but one could also say that you have to pay another 14 bucks in order to get functionality for something that should have worked without the dlc to begin with...

I am thinking the same. I also hope that we will get a cabin version without IFD.

A passenger locomotive with lower HP and that HEP whine should sound different than a 16 cylinder freight monster.

Actually the AC4400 is basically a Dash 9 but with AC traction motors. So technically we already have one, especially since the in game AC4400 doesn't have the traction motor scream that GE's AC traction motors have, so I basically consider it one. The Dash 8 is the predecessor to both.

I'm guessing the cab isn't finished yet, so they didn't include it in the article. This is a CN C40-8W cab, it has some modern upgrades but still has some of the old school/analog components to it.

Yes, it’s classic TSW allure. “That didn’t work, I’ll buy this instead.... can’t complete all the scenarios, ooh a new train... etc.”

Thats true for every other Dash 9, but the CSXs ones were built in a Dash 8 Carbody as they were pre-production models.

Me too, I also really hope the sounds are improved, especially the horn, I can’t stress this enough, the horn sounds lame, unrealistic like if pulled from a cartoon (no offense DTG). The weathering on the loco is rather nice imo, great job for that DTG! Took the time to weather it so we don’t have to do it anymore!:D

By doing a quick search for some cab shots of real CSX C40-8W locos and going to yt for confirmation, I can say the cab is pretty much the same as the AC4400 but without modern IFD displays, so all analog controls and dials. So I guess we’re not getting a new cab, just a modified version of the AC4400 cab. The TS version of the loco has this similar cab so i guess we’re getting it, you can check for ur self if u want.

But not everyone has the time nor skill to create a livery that is accurate. Plus DTG has the license for logos, we will have to recreate the logos on our own. It is no good precedent to let the developers cut corners because of livery designer. What is next? No scenarios because we have scenario planner and can make our own?

Only thing on the repaints are the minor details between various railroads, so not all of them are going to be 100% accurate. Though that doesn't mean they aren't gonna be fun to try.

    ATSF/BNSF/CN
-Mostly Identical to the CSX units, except the number boards are above the cab.

    Conrail/IC/Norfolk Southern/CSX
-These units have the front headlight above the cab, and marker lights on the nose. Ditchlights are sometimes positioned differently too.

    Union Pacific
-I don't see any differences between most of these and the CSX ones.

    Pan-Am
-These came from CSX, and would be a fun project to do.

It kinda sucks there're no new services, but SPG already has quite a varied timetable. Also, the scenarios judging by the name look challenging.
The sounds and cab detail/design will make or break this add-on for me. Hope DTG picked a model with the most analog gauges (I prefer those over the IFD's).
Still psyched for the preview and add-on itself.

I wasn't saying that only one liverly a good thing, just that at least it can be changed, and no one should be surprised in the slightest that dtg takes short cuts with there work.

And it surely should not be defended. As much as Yn2 was the most frequent, going "Nah, they can do the rest themselves" would be extremely wrong. We can't share (officially), so EVERYBODY would have to make it... yet we can't use LOGOS. So this is bad defence and if they said themselves, that they only make single liveries because we can make the rest, I'd welcome a serious backlash.

With the liveries thing, DTG haven’t made multiple liveries for their locos for a very long time. The original CSX HH (and therefore its reboot) and GWE (Class 66) are the only routes where there have been two actual liveries for any loco in one release. There was also the Class 40’s two head code styles in NTP heavy freight pack and that’s it for more than one livery in a release, as far as I can recall. All other locos that have more than one livery have been where the same loco has been released again in another route. It would be nice for there to be more than one livery but it’s nothing out of the ordinary for a loco DLC.

There’s a lot of differences between the two, but the biggest ones would be the truck styles, length, and ditchlight position. Of course the dash 8 is the shorter loco as GE has made their locos longer over time.

Great picture, there are quite some differences with the radiators at the sides, the area behind the cab, the "wing" at the back, position of lights...

I am counting on new, better sound and lighting inside.
Unfortunately, they will not change the shape of the locomotive itself ... :D
    PS Ah, this realism ...

One has a harry potter lightning bolt - the other doesn't ;)
But on a more serious note - there are quite a number of differences, and they "should" feel different to drive.

I like US routes and I like Sandpatch a lot, but I do not yet see what this DLC adds to the fun. of playing Sandpatch. I probably will save my money for another occasion, a new US route or Arosa.

The upper is the AC4400. The other is the C40-8W. You can see it on the different space behind the left side of the cab. And the base lights of the AC4400 are higher than that from the C40-8W.

I think it's fair to say that we Americans can appreciate the differences between similar-looking locomotives just as German players see them in what appear to be very similar trains and British players with their hard -to -distinguish DMU's and EMU's. We all love trains, whatever shape they come in.

Exactly what I just wanted to write here right now!
And if you take that bit of time - and it is honestly not much to invest - you start to see and know the differences very quickly. Before this post was amde by DTG, I too thought it was basically the same train. Now with that bit of research I can fully appreciate this loco as something completely different.

same as every Loco - £11.99, youll have to use a convertor for your currency but just look at any other loco DLC.

Everyone has their own preference. Personally Im very excited about the C40-8W and will definitely be making a purchase. I'm really not a fan of the german freight trains at all, so I've simply not purchased a lot of them. I get most excited about the US content more than any others and the US freight services are my favourite. What I love about TSW 2 is the variety of content and how it caters to many fans. Just like someone has said, your least favorite DLC is someone else's favorite.

Looking forward to getting some “new” traction for Sand Patch Grade. For all those that are turned off that it looks the same, well I could care less how they look, I am more interested in how they drive. Been revisiting Tees Valley and the NTP route, the class 31 is definitely different in looks, but the 45 and 47 are pretty close in looks but they all drive differently.

Now for a tongue in cheek comment - when you have designed perfection, you don’t have to keep reinventing the wheel, just make incremental improvements as technology progresses.

Ya’all have fun out there on the high iron :)

You can't complain about paying for an "Older AC44" then want a GEVO, as a GEVO is just newer AC4400....

Yup —- they look the same :). Both have yellow on the front and back and a greenish blue between ... ok class 31 and class 47; class 40 and Class 45. Again yellow in front and back with a bluish green in between.... (ducks and runs for cover) :)

We all are probably way more familiar with the locomotives of our respective countries and easily spot the differences in the way they sound as well as the way the look. Since my time in the UK has been limited, I might not know what class I am driving, but I sure do have fun driving them.
