    Hi,

Do you know where are the services that involved shunting and preparing the steel wagons at the Lackenby Steelworks? I´m almost sure there were some in the past were you took cuts from the factory sidings to compose the trains, maybe with class 08 shunter. The only ones I see now are the marshalling ones for class 08, but there you take wagons from the depot, not from the factory tracks.

Those are the sidings I mean. You can see that some wagons are parked there indeed.

I don't think there were ever any services for shunting at the steelworks however, there is the "Steelworks Shunting" scenario that makes use of those sidings. Maybe that's what you were thinking of? :)

It's a shame the 08 doesn't have more services, it comes up short in comparison to the other locomotives on the route. There's also an 08 just sat in a siding at Redcar Mineral Terminal but sadly there's no shunting of HEAs there either.

You are right, thanks. That´s what I was looking for. My memory is getting old :D

Happy to see that the series-parallel selector works well for this shunter too, as this helps a lot in the heavy duty tasks.

You can also steal the 08 at Redcar Mineral Terminal, drive it to Lackenby and play around. There is a direct connection and only manual switches.

Being someone who's always filling in the gaps of my knowledge as I go, I had no idea that switch existed :o

Definitely going to try that out next time I'm on the TVL!

The Class 08 services are at Tees Yard (you do shunt the steel wagons around)

excuse my ignorance but what does the "Series-Parallel" selector do and when would you use it?

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, Tees Valley worths the playing as it´s very versatile indeed.

The series-parallel is similar to the gears in a car, so to say. It basically controls the amount of amps that generator produces in relation to throttle position. It´s used to have better control at low speeds (series) or get the max power for higher speeds in mainline (paralell), for instance. Caltrain´s shunter has also one, which is a bit more complex.

Take a look at the section 6 here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1693369538

    Cheers
