Would be nice to know what we have to look forward to in 2021 given the state of this year.

I'd love it if DTG could do something like this instead of some silly little (irrelevant) mastery decals which largely doesn't make sense in the first place. I mean, internal warning stickers for the exterior of the train. Seriously guys, is that the best you can do?

Of course it'd require a major core update to the NPCs themselves, as well as being done by a different department, but it'd make a huge difference to the game.

Very good. The way the roadmap has been for the last two it wouldn't surprise me either.

That would require them to not prioritize shoddily done gimmicks.

I think its more that Mastery would have been fairly easy to implement at a basic level and not have much of an effect on performance. Improving passengers is something that not everyone will care about, will take time and effort by DTG that they could have been using on something else, and (depending on what they do) will impact on frame rates and memory usage.

surely passengers are seen as a pretty core mechanic to a train sim? I wonder if any of them question why they even bother anymore.

I doubt many people really care about mastery either, but they still chose to spend time on it for whatever reason.

time and effort - yeah, exactly. Thats what they should be doing. I can sense its going to be another "its complicated" answer as they avoid telling us the real reason.

Passengers are definitely a core part of a simulator. They basically sell the immersion of being in a living place.

I really don't care about mastery.

And they definitely need to put more time into creating routes/locos.

If it's announcements... I'm loading up the Bakerloo Line, HMA, and LIRR as soon as the update/DLC goes up.

Anybody mention the self modified HUD display option? I know he did take a few pokes at Matt during a stream that if we had better optionality on the HUD it would be better....

I liked how DTG put out a survey where you could rank how importantly you rated various features (multiplayer, VR, passenger functionality, steam trains, audio improvements, graphical improvements etc.) It still doesn't mean that everyone will get the features that they've always dreamt of, but its nice that they're counting these things anyway. The last question made me think.

As much as I want Multiplayer, it was well towards the bottom of my list on the things I felt were most important.

they cant even get core train sim things right, they have no business even attempting multiplayer yet, if ever.

Me 2. That wasn't in order of my preference, in fact multiplayer was near the bottom of my list as well. Any idea what "Build my own rail route" is? It almost sounds like they've already named a feature.

I hope it is the arrival of steamers. On Twitter DTG answered on that question, that it will not take to long. Sherman Hill would be ideal for that. Especially with Big Boy.

But I think it goes more in the direction of multiplayer or something like Mastery.

Do you think its possible that this is Sam's secret new major feature? I don't remember seeing it announced and it seems to fit the bill (its not a route or a loco, its not steam (I think they'll announce steam if and when they have a steam route to announce, at the same time), and it would be significant enough to invite lots of questions).

    *Sigh*

They've said we aren't getting an editor due to various issues with licensing or getting it to work with consoles or something like that.

I believe Sam has/had 3 projects, If the Editor is one of them (which I highly doubt), I wonder how, or even if it will work with consoles. I think a good midpoint would be to sell some of the best community-created routes on the console stores, to allow console players to use them.

I wonder if it is a new route that is not on the roadmap or maybe a preserved route getting an extension.

Given the hype that has built-up over Sam's incredible secret, one would hope a major new game feature was in the offing rather than a piece individual content such as a route or a loco.

    (Puts on sceptic's hat)
However there is always the danger with DTG that they announce with great fanfare a feature that nobody or very few really want such as Mastery, the Livery Editor or arguably the very limited Scenario Planner (*cough* Quick Drive *cough*). These breadcrumbs might appease the consolers, but for those coming from TS1 and Trainz expecting an equivalent feature set it is very poor fare indeed. You have been warned! Plan for disappointment, anything else is a bonus. ;)

I'm sorry, are you saying that nobody wanted a livery designer, which is probably the best feature in the game right now? Or a scenario designer, which right now is very basic but has incredible potential?

I have checked the roadmap; the only thing on it that can be a major addition to the game is the 1970s GWE pack. DTG Protagonist is this (one of) your secrets?

I think both scenario and livery designer are still in the early stages of development anyway but there was certainly a clamour for these items. Personally they don't interest me, well scenario planner will when it is more akin to that on TS1.

However, I would never be bold enough to suggest that just because something doesn't interest me then that must mean that the "community" are not interested either.

The same with mastery, I don't use it, I don't even know what it does exactly, but DTG will have a better idea than we do of what is popular. How do we know that mastery isn't used a lot and is popular away from these forums?!

Multiple Timetable support that comes with it could be the possible answer to the secret. I just hope that the blue pack adds more freight services so that we can use the yards or depots for something interesting and also the 3 unloaders we have in the route, cause now the freight experience is just A to B travelling.

    Cheers

We've known about the 1970s pack for a while though, just not all the details. We've had multiple timetable mentioned as well. I still think its something else.

The 1970s Pack is listed as a 'loco' addon. Do we know yet if it is coming with any new locos or just reskinned ones?

I think they removed the secret from the roadmap as it would spark questions over the holiday period while no-one was working, so it isn't there to find. Maybe they might hint at it tonight or tomorrow. Or we could just ask Adam what it is :)

Multiple timetables definitely is a great feature. Looking forward to have a Diesel day timetable for WSR or a maintenance day timetable ... It would be awesome if we can do tmetable like things with the scenario planner. That is what I am really dreaming of ...

Well hopefully a new DMU, if it comes with a reskinned class 101 it will make it even less realistic!

I do like the multiple timetable idea though.

If anyone watched today's livestream, Adam accidentally leaked that Unreal Engine version 4.26 was on the horizon (for TSW 2) so perhaps some new features related to that may be coming?

Correct. Expect the same for LIRR too. To put long story short, the dispatcher they use for the routes can't support the increased amount of services, and upgrading the dispatcher would be too much of a headache, as it would break the timetable.

So its a case of upgrading x would break y. I expect it to be removed off the roadmap soon, as it has been stationary for months now.

Yeah, that’s never coming. I predicted that as soon as they said that there was just a limited timetable ‘for now’ and said how many they wanted in the full one. No way was the TSW dispatcher ever going to handle that many trains. They may as well do an update now to remove all the parked up trains.

One of the secret things is probably an upgrade to 4.26 which will enable the other secret thing(s).

Not literally "nobody" (okay I exaggerated a little for dramatic effect) but I would definitely say the Livery Designer was a minority wish (certainly on PC). The Scenario Planner was admittedly more welcomed, if only because a real scenario editor is regretfully not on the table.

Visuals are something which will affect and benefit the majority, as opposed to something specific such as a DLC, which will only affect the minority.

As mentioned, volumetric clouds, dynamic weather and/or better lighting would be a lovely addition to the game.
