Well, came up against maybe a small bug in running this scenario. Normally in TSW2 when you couple up to a cut of cars, it does it without having to get out like you do to uncouple. Well I was instructed to couple to a 4 car cut and no matter how I tried, it would not do the join. I had to get out, walk back to where the join was to be made, work the cut lever to get the cars to do the join, then walk back several cars and do another cut before going back to the cab.
You can operate the couplers and hand switches also using external views (2, 3 and 8 keys) just by getting close to them with camera. And in case you need to walk for some reason using Ctrl+0 brings you back to the cab to avoid walking the way back. But in case the scenario or service requires a walking waypoint (I can´t remember this particular scenario case by heart) then you need to walk or the instruction won´t be completed. Cheers
OK, this was step 13 in the schedule of this scenario and I had successfully coupled to cuts of cars earlier in the schedule. I have not gone forward yet to other items but will see how coupling goes with these steps. Thanks geloxo for those tips but in this case none of these would work either since I was very close to the point of the join with the camera and could see the couplers come together but the air hoses would not connect which told me I did not have the join. As I noted above, I had to actually work the cut lever to get it to do a join.
I’ve found on SPG that I have to unlock the couplers on the wagon I’m about to couple to nearly every time. So much so, that I do it every time I couple up, unlocking the couplers first from an external camera view. This is on PS4. I just assumed that it’s how it’s supposed to be. After unlocking the couplers the connection is always made.
stujoy, will try that but right now I am going to do a video of the action of the couplers from up close and post it here.
Correct, if the couplers are not unlocked, then no connection can be made, I've tested these on couplers on a tank car we've had at work. When a coupler is locked, it is stuck in the closed position and you cannot couple it to another car. (This is also particularly referenced in the movie "Unstoppable" too.)
I must be the odd one out, but I actually enjoy having to get out of locos to couple/uncouple, set switches etc. Makers me feel more like I am the engineer, doing my job, instead of just being the train, like in classic TS and other games too. It's a very nice feeling and adds tremendously to the immersion. Great feeling just walking along side the locos. They look and sound so awesome, and makes me feel rather small next to them. So cool. I have encountered some couplers being in the locked position, and when trying to unlock them, they unlock but within a few seconds they revert back to the locked position as I stand there just looking at them. Bug, I suppose...
I agree. I like doing the coupling/uncoupling manually. I've tried doing it from the external camera but it's too finicky for me. Besides, with Covid closing my gym and pool, I need the exercise!
