Ofotbanen is 43 kilometers long from Narvik harbor to the national border with Sweden. The line is connected to the Swedish railway network. Ofotbanen is the country's heaviest traffic line where the ore trains from the mines at Kiruna make up the main part of the traffic. The railway is also important for the transport of goods between southern and northern Norway. Ofotbanen is considered one of Europe's most beautiful railway lines.

Ofotbanen follows from Narvik fjord inwards and eastwards towards the mountains at the Swedish border. The track is constantly rising, so to speak, all the way from Narvik to Bjørnfjell. The Ofot line has the maximum permissible axle load of 30 tonnes after reinforcement work was completed in 2003. The Ofot line opened in 1902 and today the line follows essentially the same route as at the opening. A stretch of 1.5 kilometers was re-routed in 1988 to avoid the old bridge over Norddalsenden (Norddalsbrua). In 2002, the new crossing track at Katterat station opened with a new track 2 in the tunnel. In 2010, the new, extended, crossing track opened at Straumsnes station. In the autumn of 204, the new Bjørnfjell station with three crossing tracks of 1100 meters in length was opened. In the autumn of 2015, the trip had come to the new Rombak crossing track, which is also over 1000 meters long.

Today, 10-12 ore trains run in each direction every day, the ore trains run for the mining company LKAB. Ofotbanen is also an important freight corridor for the entire Nordic region and 90% of the grocery supply to northern Norway goes by train via Narvik. Several daily freight train commuters run between Alnabru in Oslo and Narvik via Sweden. Ofotbanen also has two daily passenger train pairs in each direction. One train pair runs between Narvik and Luleå, with connections further south in Sweden, while one train pair runs directly between Narvik and Stockholm.
There are also four departures with a tourist train.

The closest is where the container trains come in, and what is a little further away over the water is where the ore trains come in.

I‘ve been in love with the IORE ever since I first saw it in Miniatur Wunderland (look it up if you don‘t know what it is). I‘d love to get a chance to drive it:D

A great suggestion right there, BUT this definitely needs to be a longer route. In your version, you'd only be running loaded ore trains downhill and empty uphill. With these super heavy trains, I think it is important to also have part of the Swedish side, where you'd have to haul the trains up the hill. Maybe Narvik-Abisko?

It would have been cool if DTG had made the route. I think they would make Narvik-Bjørnefjell because it is the shortest. But it would have been better to Abisko.

If the route becomes Narvik-Abisko, we get these stations in Sweden: Riksgränsen, Katterjåkk, Vassijaure, Låktatjåkka, Björkliden, Abisko Tourist Station, Abisko Östra.

And if the route goes to Abisko, we need the SJ passenger train, it could be a loco-addon DLC

So even if we went wild and said that it could be up to 100 km on rails, that's doable now that automated generation appeared on LGV. You don't have big cities surrounding the route and it's mostly mountains and forests - something easily doable with this system. 43 km to the border seem to be too short for this type of route. It hardly passes on routes with branches (ECW) and parallel routes (HRR, RRO).

I was there during the fall holiday. When I took the tourist train, I was allowed to sit in front with the train driver. The view was so beautiful.

I think the route should come to TSW2 because: 1. Very beautiful nature 2. new trains. 3. new countries 4. the world's strongest train

There is a train that runs between Narvik and Oslo, namely the DB Schenker train. One of these locomotives could become a DLC.
The first is a Br 185, the second is an EL16 and the third is an RC4. 78485.jpg CN_El16_2203_2011.jpg gcgreen-cargo-rc4-1163-on-612.jpg

Considering what they try to do with the 70s pack for GWE now I think both modern and old school lines are possible. Or maybe the transformation era with IOREs coming into service but DM3s not yet being gone.

This is Lilletoget or littletrain in English. It is called because it has 26 ore carriages. This could have been a DLC.

Yes yes please. I’ve lauded this route elsewhere as well.

It’s got spectacular scenery, Iron Ore and container trains, tourist EMU’s and a daily sleeper train to Stockholm. You’ve even got shunting around the dock if you wish.

I think the perfect place to end it would be at Riksgränsen which is the first stop over the Swedish border. Here the mountains start to turn into hills and the scenery, whilst remaining spectacular, arguably is less interesting than going up the Norwegian mountains alongside the Rombaken Fjord.
Even if they could manage further, it is a long way to anywhere of note so they might as well end it there and concentrate on the existing scenery. I doubt their auto-scenery tool will cope well with the mountains and Fjords.

The Swedish trains coming into Norway use an automatic control system as the Swedish and Norwegian signalling systems use the same aspects for completely different meanings so it is not safe for Swedish drivers to drive in Norway without the automatic system. I do not know if this will make it more interesting to drive or less.
However driving the most powerful locomotive in Europe with a colossal Ore Train can’t be too boring surely!

The Tourist EMU’s are antiques and full of character and the sleeper often uses stock from the 1970’s mixed in with newer stuff- I highly recommend a trip on it from Stockholm.
There is a container train that delivers supplies additionally.

Ive attaches a few photos from when I visited.

Yeh that would make sense as it’s a more significant place to end with its sidings and passing loops.

If the route comes to the game and we get the DB Schenker package, we can get this here. CargoNet SKD 226. This runs at Narvik port.

Ah must be what I saw waiting on a bridge in the port.

It’s an interesting little assortment of lines weaving around the harbour and it would be great fun exploring.
That and the run up to the border would provide plenty of play-value.
