So, I have seen other posts of a similar nature on the forums and wanted to share my likes and dislikes of TSW 2, too. Likes: Being able to drive trains whilst slobbing about on the couch. A good variety of routes and rolling stock (which continues to grow). The challenge of using safety systems. The lower right HUD although the speedometer could have a more logical speed range. The general level of detail on the rolling stock and the environment. The general quality of the graphics. Being able to take in game photographs. The Roadmap (DTG more than TSW2). Some interesting scenarios, such as Bad Things on LGV Méditerranée. Layers adding extra traffic and interest on certain routes. Dislikes: Sounds aren’t balanced or accurate enough and ruins the immersion. Shadows and scenery ‘obviously’ popping in to the scene right in front of you (usually when driving). Frame rate impacted on some routes, especially in particular places. Trophies not popping when they are supposed to do so. The interface in general e.g. text size too small/not legible enough on TV, mastery pop up, route selection screen. Some aspects of the stats not updating properly e.g. having completed all scenarios, but the scenario ring hasn’t filled in fully on some routes. Passengers. Some bugs not being worthy enough to fix e.g. missing trophies for IoW on PS4/PS4 Pro. Lighting. Particularly at night leaves a lot to be desired. It’s so dark on some routes, you couldn’t find your bum with both hands. The almost less than useless map. There are loads more in both categories, but these are my top ten of each.
"text size too small/not legible enough on TV" Is it just me or is the distance to the next objective marker harder to see than it was on TSW2020? I really struggle to see the yards figure clearly and I'm on PS5 with a 55 inch 4K HDR TV. Maybe it's just my eyes as I get older.
I also agree with most things on this list. I'm able to ignore most of the negatives, I'm not saying I'm willing to give DTG a free pass, but I take the positives on board far more than the negatives, I guess that's what happens when you've been gaming since the late 1970s. The negatives that grate with me the most are the lack of passengers and the shadow drawing, other than that I can look past the others. I think being able to play on a PS5 has certainly elevated the game in many ways, it runs so smoothly it still feels like a new game to me.
No it's not just you. They are really small and quite frankly dtg made the hud worse in tsw2 which makes no sense.
I genuinely don't have an issue with this, I'm on a 55 inch Sony XH90, however when I'm gaming I sit/lie on a beanbag with my eyes about 5 feet away from the screen, and angle the screen down as its on a cantilever stand, maybe that helps. I definitely think the new HUD is an improvement on the old one.
Not much I disagree with here. For me, the lighting is the biggest letdown. Good lighting can make or break a game's immersion and this is crucial for a simulator game in my eyes. The UI/HUD and layers are the other issues for me as well. Although, after watching the TSW2 end of year stream, I'm definitely more understanding of DTG's development practices. Sam and Matt talked about how the development of the game is pushing the boundaries of UE4 constantly, and the resources they have compared to other wealthier sim developers is night and day. That being said I realized the other day that TSW2 is one of my favorite games despite its flaws. Cheers!
It was one of the best streams I've seen in a while, it does help you to understand the complexity of putting together a functional route, it's not just a case of slapping down some track and signals. I definitely second your thoughts, TSW2 isn't perfect, but nothing comes close to the feeling I get when I get going in a 31, 37 or 45. Certainly one of my favourite games and the PS5 only makes it even more so.
I agree. The Q&A stream was fantastic. Kudos to Matt & Sam. And yep, despite its flaws, TSW 2 is the only game I’ve been playing since it came out. It’s very addictive.
It is. The strange thing is they have recently increased the text size for the distances to the next signal and speed limit on the right of the screen but left the smallest text on the screen, the distance to the objective, really small. It’s like they’ve taken a bit of the feedback about the size of the text and ignored or forgotten about the rest. Maybe in another update the objective text size will increase. I also find the segmented numbers on the brake dials hard to distinguish and feel they would benefit from a more traditional number font. Luckily, I’m not that bothered about the values on those as I generally only check them to see if they are on zero or not, or the percentage of dynamic brake in the larger brake dials. The amps reading is usually more readable, so that’s fine. I could use the large option for the lower HUD but I find it obscures too much of the screen, so by and large I can live with the small option.
Just on the HUD they simply have to get rid of the silver ball for the accelerometer and bring back the line. When you are making fine changes to acceleration at very low speeds it’s next to useless now. I really liked the original one and used it a lot. Also agree that the next objective marker is hard to see and also blends with the sky on occasion
