Has anyone really got over 3 hours to sit & watch this!!!??? And NO, I haven't before anyone asks!!! Eric Eric
Yes, it can It can even be operated with Simple Controls. You won't even have to choose between a "HUD" and "Adv" version of the model, because the same model works in every mode, with an automatic fireman or firing manually. You can make the operation as easy or as difficult as you like.
Yes, it tries to post an image (not sure of what) every time I post a reply. Very strange! I'll be doing another live stream, probably next weekend, once the proper Big Boy tender (a 25,000 gallon Centipede 25-C-1) is finished.
It's in your signature field, you can edit that via the drop down menu next to your username at the top right of the forum.
Thanks, it seems to have a bug when the signature is empty. I've put my Facebook page link in now. Let's see if that works.
No, you don't have too. You can select which parts of the video you want to watch. Either just a minute or 20 minutes or whatever you like
The tender is almost finished (just a few minor details and some animations are still to be added), so I'm going ahead with another YouTube live stream this weekend, starting half an hour past midnight (00:30) GMT on the 6th (in the USA that's Saturday, Dec 5th, 4:30pm PT, 5:30pm MT, 6:30pm CT, 7:30pm ET). I'll post a link to the stream around half an hour before I start, just so that we don't have the same hiccup as last time! I'll take a heavy freight eastbound from Ogden towards Evanston and see how far I get, and maybe reserve some time for a fast freight (or maybe even a passenger consist) just to see how Big Boy handles at higher speed.
Cliché to say at this point but everything on that engine's looking (and sounding) great! Also gotta say liking the rolling stock GreatNortherner's supplied, if that's included with the engine as well I'll be a very happy camper.
Hello, Smokebox! I know that this has been quite a labor (of love of course), but I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the amazing products you create for TS. All the years of hard work shows. Your steam locomotives are an absolute joy to drive, and they add an immersive experience to the sim. For me, learning to drive the FEF-3 is an exercise in the study of steam locomotives. Looking forward to experiencing the power of a 4000! God bless and stay well.
Many thanks, I really do appreciate the kind words and I'm very glad to know that people can see the admiration I have for these steam locomotives
Something I'm curious about, what will the road number situation be for quick drive? I noticed the Big Boy in your streams seems to default to 4014, like how the FEF-3 always defaults to 844. Is this how it's intended for the final release, or is there intentions to have randomly pick a road number?
I have no interest whatsoever in Steam, I have even less interest in US railways... So why the hell do I want this so badly after watching that stream? You got a lot to answer for Smokebox
It'll pick a road number at random from the range 4000 to 4019, i.e. the first series of 20 locomotives. Furthermore, the tender number will match the locomotive number automatically, and just to cap it off, the date and build number on the builder's plate on the sides of the smoke box will also change automatically.
1. its Smokebox and he makes a lot of work and I love his work andi love it so much i would pay a bit more money to get the big boy when it comes out 2. its the Big Boy and it will marvel a lot of people
quick question what about the rest of the numbers cause the first bunch is 4000-4019 and the second batch is 4020-4024 also do you maybe think that if you were to remotely think that you could built the oil versions would it be the 4014 and the 4005? finally 4019 was fitted with some experimental smoke deflectors, any plans or no inclusion?
It covers only the first series, 4000 to 4019. The second series had several modifications that I don't have time to include. However, I do plan on providing the option to run Big Boy with the experimental smoke deflectors. At present I don't think I'll be doing an oil-burning version.
A beautiful model indeed there Smokebox, glad we will have a quality Big Boy to work with compared to that old RSC model from years ago.
Congratulations sir! I'll be looking forward to playing both the Big Boy & FEF Update in the not to distant future.
