Many TSW2 users are asking for a multiplayer on PC / CONSOLE. You as DOVETAIL developers would earn you points and the community would be extremely grateful if this was introduced. The game would not be limited.
Not all players want multiplayer. There are many people on this forum who really don’t want it and some would prefer if it was never introduced. It is going to be introduced at some point but not any time soon. Whatever you are requesting, you can never say with any kind of certainty that “all TSW2 users” are “crying out” for it because that will never be the case. It’s best just to stick to saying that you want it.
They already said that in a survey They also said optimisation was their priority Also where is your evidence to suggest your claims:”all players are crying out for multiplayer”
yeah i remember someone had put a poll about it and a large majority said no to multiplayer stating they want other things to come before it arrives like optimization ect
How would multiplayer really work anyway? You'd see your friend pass on the opposite line...hello goodbye! Then that would be it.
I think the point is that developing multiplayer would eat up resources that would be better employed improving the single player version as a priority. Plus there is debate as to whether multiplayer would be appropriate for TSW2 and how it would actually work in practice. The people who are in favor of multiplayer have not been very specific about that.
I’m concerned that things would need to be built in to the core of the game to allow multiplayer to work that would affect how the single player game would work. TSW2 operates on the brink of what machines are able to do (both consoles and lots of PCs) and adding extra stuff into the core could affect that. There is also the dev time and the bug fixing time that would need to be devoted to it. TSW2 is also at the brink of what DTG can handle in that department, with many quite serious bugs staying around for months or even years without being addressed. We’ll be coming up to six months of the dynamic brakes on the AC4400 not operating properly soon. That is arguably the flagship loco of the game and there hasn’t been the time to fix an essential part of its operational necessities. That’s just one major example of many. Multiplayer can only make this situation worse for a feature that may only be used by a small number of players.
Ultimately, multiplayer could be a good idea, but how would it work ? And what would it really change to the game as you would still be in your train alone I would only make the game less RP if not introduced correctly...
True, and there are a number of other issues, including the nonfunctional radio circuit and banking com on the dash8. In fact there are a host of long-standing problems across all the routes that need to be addressed before DTG should even think about something as radical as multiplayer.
Well firstly, before MP comes, we should definitely have the destination boards added, and the Bakerloo be updated with delay logic for them. This is because as a passenger, if a player is running late, you'd want to know this. Then you have to remember that MP would need a lot of development, as in MP, you'd need to think about all sorts of things. Firstly, servers: Do you want to have public servers (either hosted by DTG, or via P2P connection), so that MP feels alive with people (assuming 1 server per route)? What rules do you put in place for MP, and how do you enforce them? Would you want to lock the cab of a train that a player is driving so other players can't interfere? Maybe have the ability to do guard mode (would you lock guard mode to just friends of the player driving that train?), and would you want to take the time to add guard mode to SP? And that only covers a few of the rather major considerations you'd want to make when developing multiplayer, so the time it takes to produce it could be months with the core team. And then there's bugs that need to be fixed, which would be the preserved team's job, but some bugs would probably warrant some of the core teams attention, which wouldn't be possible to do when they would be focusing on MP. Plus, if the core team was tied up with MP, then we could expect quite a reduction in content output of route and loco addons. Plus, there's other features we would like to see first as community, such as Steam, improvements to the content tools such as more options for the scenario editor and other stuff. So yeah, when people say they don't want to see it, it's likely that they wouldn't mind it being added, just so long as many other stuff comes out first that is deemed more important. And while people are worried about how MP could affect SP, I don't think it'd affect it much, but you can understand people's concerns there.
