I couldn’t get the Class 40 to pull the van cars to Leeds from Huddersfield, I tried all different levels of throttle (with sand aswell) applying too much throttle caused it to overpower and cut out and too little caused it not to budge and in the middle caused it to spin then stop any advice how to get it moving would be appreciated
I have found with the class 47 that I need to change the brakes from their default of air passenger to vacuum goods. This needs to be done before setting up the master key and reverser it seems. It might be worth checking the brake setting to see if it's causing a similar issue.
That's right, although in this case you have to go to the other end of the loco (No.1 end), and change the settings to "vacuum brake - goods. Then go back to the driver's seat, and it's much easier to start. You only need around 30% throttle.
