The railfan tv schedule has been released for this week , and apparently this weekend is the festival of rail , so does this mean that we will get a sale at last , or is it just for steam ?

It's just on Steam I think, and all the streams are only on Steam as well aren't they?

That's annoying because I enjoy watching the streams, and have no way of watching them on Steam. Does anybody know whether they'll be uploaded to YouTube afterwards?

They are normally, but this week because of the event on Steam it looks like it's only being streamed on Steam. It's annoying as I don't think I have a way of watching on Steam, and I don't think they archive the streams to watch at a later time. I can't always watch live as I may be busy, but know I can usually find time to give them a watch later.

I'd take a day's delay and an upload to Youtube. I understand there's this big event on Steam, but is that really cause to exclude a sizeable portion of their audience/customers from their streams for a week? It's some interesting viewing for me in an evening. Usuall while I'm playing myself. Sometimes I'll "play along" with whatever route they've been streaming.

I’m assuming anyone can watch these, not only people who have a Steam account. Is that correct?
I’m assuming also that these streams aren’t recorded, so you have to be there at the time to watch them. Is that also correct?

You’d better be able to watch on YouTube, I’ll be really disappointed if you can only watch on steam

That's correct you don't need an account to be able to watch on Steam, all you need to do is visit our store page during the event.

We will be recording some of the footage and uploading it but not all of it. Anything particularly important will be uploaded to Youtube after the event has finished.

At least I'll be able to watch some. That's what I was worried about. I'll catch the repeats in YouTube when they turn up.

I don't understand why your putting tsw 2 sehs on the steam page especially if the majority of the player base playes on console. Doesn't really make a ton of sense. Wouldn't it have been better to just put it on youtube?

I think it's to coincide with their big sale on Steam for TSW & TS21 content. Should be back to the usual Youtube/Twitch streaming next week.

Steam is not a good streaming platform. It seems forced to do it there, or is there some special deal you can get? You can't watch it comfortably on TV or console, you have to watch it live because it's not saved to watch it later. So you potentially exclude many interested, especially the according to your statement largest player mass with the console players. Therefore understandable that one makes such a thing at all.

So two fingers up then to hard working NHS staff who might be working when the live streams are on.

Seriously though, DTG have said that important footage, e.g. SEHS, will be put up on Youtube after so anyone should be able to view it later, just like catch up TV.

The Festival of Rail weekend is a promotion we organise with Steam - this is the second year we've done so and we'll be covering both Train Sim World and Train Simulator. Part of the appeal of this promotion for us is a far greater presence on the Steam front page than we'd usually get, profile item giveaways for viewers and the opportunity to reach an audience we usually do not.

You can watch the streams through a regular browser, or catch up on highlights later on YouTube. We get that this is a bit off-putting for those who aren't Steam natives, but we'd run the exact same promotion on individual console platforms if given the opportunity to do so.

Honestly people pick your battles. Obviously they have a valid reason, there is no reason get nasty. Like Sam said if Microsoft or Sony would offer them the same thing they would jump on it in a heartbeat. These guys give more support for console than any other game and promote the game on consoles more than any other simulation company. How's that flight sim Microsoft promised us for consoles coming along? At least DTG has given us a beautiful game we can play on the xbox.

I will admit I was a little perturbed at first as I tend to watch the streams in the evening after they've been on, but before I go to bed. Usually while I'm playing TSW myself. Sometimes I'll play along with whatever route they're streaming to save me having to make a decision about what to play myself. As long as we're still getting to watch the important stuff back on Youtube we're still getting something to watch this week. It makes sense to be on Steam if that's the platform the sale event is running on. I'm sure if Mixer were still a thing they'd have a presence on there. Just a shame Microsoft can't offer the same huge discounts on XBox as Steam can, or even Playstation, but that's a completely different conversation, and a matter in which I'd imagine DTG's hands are tied.

We take absolutely every sale opportunity we're offered on console. The way we work is built around regular price promotions - tried and tested with Train Simulator on Steam. If Microsoft or Sony were to up the number of sales periods we're offered over the year we'd take them all.

There was a sale in last year’s festival of rail. Not seen any announcements yet. Will there be a sale this year?

Just open Edge on Xbox and watch the livestream that way. Slightly inconvenient but better than waiting for the non-live version. You can fullscreen the video player too.

    I sleep at night ^^
Unfortunately, some interesting things take place in the middle of the night, so I can not watch it all live and since only "highlights" are subsequently viewable, some will probably be lost. Very sad in a digital time, where it should actually be no problem to publish everything.

Technically, this should not be a problem. But we don't know what (exclusive) deals were negotiated between DTG and Steam/Valve. This is often a business decision that is often to the disadvantage of the users, but the companies usually don't care.

I'd imagine the stuff that gets uploaded to Youtube afterwards will be things like some form of the new Bakerloo challenge and the SEHS event. A lot of the other content looks like it's prerecorded videos from YouTube creators to demonstrate the different ways people play the games, and the various routes and locos available.

Although DTG can't be blamed for the rotation of the Earth (much as I expect some will try to), a problem with livestreaming from Britain, for North American railfans, is that the time difference puts much of the content smack during the work day.
