I was just looking for info about locos which appear singly, or in a pack. I see the Class 35 Hymek is for sale, but I have one as part of the Western Hydraulics pack I think it was. Are these basically the same standard of loco, except maybe for some liveries and scenarios? In which case, it might be worth a few pounds for that? https://store.steampowered.com/app/258677/Train_Simulator_BR_Class_35_Loco_AddOn/ Steam could do with a search function, but finally found the other Hymek: https://store.steampowered.com/app/621920/Train_Simulator_Western_Hydraulics_Pack_AddOn/
I would say get it, it's a good IHH model with reasonable sounds and an oven you can pop your Cornish Pastie in. There are some good free reskins here that require the standalone but won't work on the Hydraulics pack. For £3.60 you can't go wrong. https://www.vulcanproductions.co.uk/diesel.html Scroll down the page for the 35 but there's lots of other goodies there.
Someone did post under it that it used 37 sounds, different from the 35’s Maybach engine. I don’t know the difference, but I guess noticeable to those familiar.
Does that make a difference to how the Engine sounds? Listen to this from 6 mins as he restarts from a stop and tell me you don't hear a Class 37 And compare with a real one from 2.00
It depends what you mean by 'engine'. I mean loco, in which case horn, bogie and ancillary equipment sounds are relevant to the assessment. I think you mean motor, where I concede there is a slight difference between real and simulated. Whether that's a problem will probably depend on how familiar you with the loco. Since I last heard a real one 45 years ago I think I can live with it. Overall the sounds are much better than on the standard Class 37.
The loco should not sound like a Class 37 as it has a Maybach MD870 engine Having a number of preserved Hymeks in the UK I have heard them in action and they don't have a Class 37 Prime Mover They should sound more like a Class 52 which has two Maybach MD655 engines And I wonder how the loco performs without Train Brakes? It is a Vacuum Only loco but the Gauge on the desk, to the left of the speedo, does not move . How do you work out the amount of brake you have applied?
I don't care as long as I'm stopping fast enough! I accept that's probably not how real drivers do it. I don't know whether the vacuum brake works efficiently or not, I've only used it with the supplied coaches and they work fine.
The point I was trying to make it the Vacuum brake gauge is not animated But if it is not important in playing the game we could get rid of other stuff like engine revs, speedo, lights etc
That does it! I'm going to try the Hymek that came with the hydraulics pack to see if the engine is a Maybach or a 37.
I beat that deadline and can confirm that the Hymek in the Western Hydraulics pack has the same 37 sound. Still, I quite like em despite their shortcomings. Always wanted the Tri-ang OO 35 cos back then in my yoof they were modern.
Thanks, Cat. So probably not worth getting if you have this: https://store.steampowered.com/app/621920/Train_Simulator_Western_Hydraulics_Pack_AddOn/
