I am having trouble moving the GP38-2 on the morning delivery mission on journeys. The brake sounds like it's applied when I go to notch 8,and it slows down quickly. It won't even move in N1-3, what's happening?
Probably the MU switch not set to leading. When sitting in your locomotive, you have the huge black divider to your left with the different brakes. Now if you stand up und go halfway around it (so between this divider and the circuit board on the wall) and look down at the divider, there should be switch at the bottom of the divider, which you have to set to lead, so the Loco knows it controls the brakes for both engines. I hope this helps, this is sadly not explained in the tutorials...
I’m glad I looked on this forum. I was having the same problem and thought it was me. Thank you to the op and the chap that replied.
I went back to the tutorial, did everything mentioned there, I set the MU-2A to lead and the train still won't move
Brake valve set to freight also? After that, checked/released both automatic and independent brakes? What does the BC gauge on the HUD read? If it is above 0 (or above near 0), some brake is in fact applied. Edit: IIRC, "morning delivery" involves a pair of GP-38. So please also check the settings on the second loco (MU2A to trail 6 or 26, brake valve to cutout, automatic brake to neutral position, independent brake to release).
When you've followed all the advice above, start in notch 4 and make friends with the sander. If this is a heavy train, be patient.
More important than the BC gauge here is the BP gauge and the BP readout on the EOTD. Both read 89 with the train brake fully released, but it can take a good long time for the brakes to come off all the way back.
