Will the LGV Mediterranee be the only long route for TSW2? Or are there coming more long high-speed routes for TSW2 in future? Most of the TSW2 routes are short commuter train routes, because long route development may take too much time. The AI technology that DTG used to build LGV Mediterranee sounds very cool. I hope that it makes possible to develop more long high-speed routes for TSW2.
I think we will see longer routes in the future, now there's the autogen, though I think it's still going to be quite a while until we see something like London-Holyhead.
Yep but mind you to be fair to DTG sehs a good deal when you think round trip st pancreas to faversham and back is around 2 hours that’s not bad plus the local stopping services on Chatham main line 375 operates on
LGV is the first time we've tried to create a route this long, and we've learnt an awful lot from doing so. I would say it's definitely feasible for us to create longer routes in the future. As you know we aren't currently working on anything that long, and this is by no means a guarantee that it will happen. More of an agreement that it's certainly possible.
It couldn't have been more than 6 months ago where I hear Matt on a stream opine that TSW routes will simply never be as long as TS1, due to the increased dev time making routes for TSW. 6 months later and we have LGV and SEHS, both exact copies of rather respectable length TS1 routes. So...I think as we've seen many times before, DTG are really in a bit of a no man's land right now with development for UE4 and learning more and more each day.
I think what he meant was the likes of South Wales Coastal (85 miles), West Coast Mainline South (113 miles), Newcastle-York (88 miles), etc. LGV Med is 59 miles and SEHS is 51 miles.
The gradient of the learning curve they are on is still very steep which is why the older routes age quickly and they need a preservation crew. I would imagine at some point the slope levels off as with TS but there is no sign of this yet.
My favourite UK TS1 route is WCML(N) Preston-Glasgow, nearly 200 miles and fairly well detailed. HS2 would be very tedious, as it's mostly in tunnels/deep cuttings. My money's on it never getting further than the Curzon St-Old Oak Common segment.
