Watching the Alan Thomson SHS video and, if I’m honest, it’s put me off the route.

I appreciate it’s not necessarily the final build (although it does have the grey ballast and fencing), but some of the textures and scenery (foliage etc) look very poorly rendered and a lot of surfaces in the stations look very clinical. I definitely got a different sense of the quality when compared to the official DTG stream.

I’m still going to buy the route so I can see it properly on my PS4 Pro, but I am slightly worried now I’m going to be disappointed.

It’s definitely not the release build being played in the video. Hoo Junction is baron in the video, which it wasn’t in the stream on Monday.

That could be because the 66’s weren’t ‘plugged’ into the scenarios, which would of been designed before the changes and likely not retrofitted.

Alan's PC is a limiting factor as well. His stream bit rate is also quite low.

The route definitely looked better when DTG showed it on Monday. I’m feeling less worried now. Can’t wait to play it.

Ok managed 8 minutes and had to turn off. Realised someone’s opinion of something on a different platform (with work in progress) before I’ve had a go myself.. it’s all irrelevant really (edit: to me that is). Thank you for sharing though :)

I watched an hour of his stream (always worth a watch) and the main thing I’m worried about is whether the route and the trains included are a bit too dull as a driving experience. For context, I find ECW to be the dullest of all the previous TSW releases, and part of this release is the same, the 375 is the twin of the 377. Although the Javelin may be a javelin on HS1 it’s more of a toothpick on the third rail section, even if the model looks great. The fast bits are tunnels with the occasional gap. That’s the main thing I’m getting from the streams I’ve watched.

I’m also concerned about performance on a base PS4 as always. I did request a base PS4 stream and then later someone else requested a stream on xbox and they got a reply from DTG, so I guess any console stream of this will be on xbox, maybe in the next week or so. Performance may not be an issue if I can’t get over how dull it might get driving either of these modern trains on the slow section of the route. I’m in two minds. I did buy ECW at full price and then later thought it wasn’t as good value as other routes I’d got in sales (for my liking of course). I’m not sure this would be as bad but the more I see it the less excited I become.

I don’t think there is much wrong with the route or the trains that isn’t a repeat of general issues with DTG stuff. There has been enough getting into a tizzy over that elsewhere on the forum. If I am going to buy it at full price I want to be in early, to be able to join in with the reporting of issues, as there is a bit of first come, first served with issues being addressed. So I’m either going to buy it in about 15 minutes time or wait until it is in a sale.

    Decisions, decisions.

    Pah, just buy it :)

I’m kidding, all these DLC’s add up and it’s not a cheap game if one is hooked on it.

2.7gb downloaded done both tutorials and it’s looking pretty much as you say above. I see it as a hybrid of TGV and ECW.

runs smooth enough on the base PS4, already had my first chuckle at the passengers getting stuck at the gates at st pancs.

The thing that caught me off guard was the AMOUNT of passengers on the trains and at stations. Refreshing to see.

I agree with him on the scenery. Feels like scenery gets scaled down a bit for high speed. Felt the same with LGV. Though he is on PC, I would be expecting a bit higher detail.

    I did !!!

I came to the conclusion that the route was worth it and after driving one service on the 395 I think most of my fears were just that, fears. I’ve always found that as much as you can tell from streams if you might or might not like a route, it’s only when you drive it that you can know for certain. I held off buying RSN for a long time because I wasn’t feeling it from the streams but as soon as I drove the route myself it became my favourite for a very long time.

I like the Javelin. There is enough going on in the route to keep you having to adjust the controls and keep your eye out. A lot of the scenery is nice. The jitters are only in line with any other route, nothing serious, mainly around Hoo yard where all the trains are parked up, where I saw a fuzzy train, but otherwise it runs rather smoothly. I saw plenty of AI on the line and I just happened to pick a service that the freight service passed, so that was a nice early surprise.

I did get stopped by a spurious brake application at the very start of the run when exiting Faversham station, so that may be a bug, but apart from the sound mixing being dubious (I made another post), which might get better with a patch, I had no issues with the 395. I’m not sure how much use I’ll get out of the 375 because I don’t much care for the 377 but the route is different enough from ECW to not make it exactly the same. I haven’t driven that yet, I skipped straight to the 395 tutorial, just like I suspect a lot of other people will.

Reference to the Alan Thompson video if you note in the top left hand corner it does state that its work in progress content and that its currently unavailable. So this content was made using the same build that they showed at the festival of steam and DOES NOT REPRESENT the final build of the game. That build was shown in Mondays stream from DTG.

    Regards
    Hentis

It wasn’t the festival of rail version. It may not be the actual final release version but it was the version that was the same as the second DTG stream, after the changes were made to fences and ballast.

Buying the route when you have doubts and everyone else as well is the reason DTG can get away releasing unfinished products, everyone should back off buying until they can demonstrate the route is properly finished

Maybe one day but not until I have seen updated YouTube streams and read people are happy with the improvements

PS I like the look of the route plus it passes through my local station but that’s not enough reason to buy another unfinished route

I get that, but unless the community play the route and highlight the shortfalls, DTG might not necessarily know. They were proud to show the route during the festival of rail (presumably because they felt it was looking good), but there was then a lot of feedback from the community, which prompted changes. When playing the route, even more feedback is generated.

DTG definitely needs to step up its game though. Having played SHS, there are some significant shortfalls in performance - which I’ve highlighted in my thread on the topic.

I presume they only showed the PC version during the festival? everyone should know by now that consoles have always been a whole different ball game even though they can share the same bugs, console streams always take a back seat and are never the stream of choice

people are never happy, you’ve been around the forum long enough ;)

the stream that started this thread made me anti SEHS and thought why? Hence stopping the video and leaving someone else’s disappointment and tiny moans to them to deal with.

I think the new product is great, having given it a few hours now.

    Edit:
oh and agree the streams (which I am watching more and more..) they always run a demo with a console what feels like it’s been a request when it should be on their own internal roadmap as such to demo new stuff on Xbox and PlayStation to some sort of routine.

i get, as sam said in one of the other threads, people are on different ends of the spectrum. I tend to travel on the GWML a lot and the cuality of the reading interior is terrible, but on routes that ive never travelled on, im happy to play them on TSW and be happy to acually ride them in a real life better enviroment someday. I get, some of the routes arent quite up to par, like the issues with TVM and sound on the 395. But TSW is like a box of chocolates, you neve know what you're goind to get, or how your going to get it
