When I was doing the tutorial on the class 395, I went through the tunnel towards stratford. 225 started flashing on the drivers desk and after a few moments, I was over speeding, despite doing less than 225 kph The speed then went and started flashing at a lower number, so I reduced speed to that that was flashing, but the speed limited then changed to something below that , not the number that was flashing on the drivers display? Am I missing something? I know the speed limits in the tunnel dont show on the HUD on the right side of the screen and I think Matt said on the stream they were working on that (?) , How should I be slowing down and not speeding in the tunnel? What do the flashing numbers on the drivers desk actually mean when appraoching a station? They flash for a certain time and then the speed limit changes but its always lower than what's actually flashing... I did the tutorial, it talked about changing power , but nothing about speed limits that I remember
On TVM the speed will start to flash when it is telling you to expect a speed reduction. So, if 225 starts flashing, you should be prepared for a speed reduction to 200. When 200 appears, you need to be at 200 before the next TVM Flag, indicated by the signal marker in the HUD. If the 200 is flashing, it means you should expect a further reduction to 160. When 160 appears, you have to be at 160 before the next TVM Flag and so on.
When the HUD turns yellow, you aren’t being penalised for speeding. You’ll see that you’ll still get 30 points for being under the speed limit.
Cheers, when you say "225 expect to slow to 200", "200 expect to slow further to 160", is there any logic to this or just telling me that I need to slow by any reasonable amount ?
That is the usual speed reduction sequence you would see on TVM - including on the TGV/LGV. You can pretty much expect to see those speeds every time.
I think 230 is the line speed (its shared with Eurostar) whereas the Javelin is limited to 225km/h (140 mph).
