Some sort of anti-glare pad to stop the driver being dazzled by reflections off the plastic onto the windscreen?
That would make a lot of sense, actually. Perhaps one of us could contact Southeastern and/or Hitachi and ask them?
The correct answer (for definite, not just guessing) is that it’s a crash pad. (And yes, it’s hard to believe. Any of the answers above would been my guess too)
Must be the world's smallest crash pad. One can only assume it's so that the driver doesn't break a nail in the event of a crash.
haha, yes I can’t believe it either. To be fair, its probably more for low speed crashes like hitting the buffer stops or low speed derailment at a depot.
