This is really cool! Watching station like München, Berlin or Zurich sped up 30 times is... satisfying
Wow I zoomed in to my hometown thinking "what are all these trains doing on the streets?" then I realized that it's also tracking city buses !! Nice link, thanks!!
UK services all say "Vehicle position based on interpolated schedule data", as does everywhere I've checked outside Switzerland (where they're genuinely real-time). I imagine each country has its own reporting system, so needs another interface, as has been developed in the UK by RTT and Traksy. Or I may be using it wrong
My country (Czech Republic) has a pretty good reporting system and here only international trains going to Germany are featured.
For Germany it sadly is just based on the schedule, so no real time data (Just saw a train that is cancelled today)
If GSM-R is ever fully implemented, then train locations will be reported in realtime by position transponders, like airliners. But that project is delayed indefinitely.
Unfortunately this doesn't track any trains near me, not even the local Amtrak ones (But does have Caltrain and Metrolink) At least I can always fall back on this one for Amtrak https://asm.transitdocs.com/map
Thanks for the link mate, great stuff. Always fun to find the little hiccups of such a system. For instance here, where it believes the RE from Copenhagen to Nykøbing F in Denmark takes a detour from Ringsted to Glumsø over Køge. Second screenshot is the actual route: Have a good Monday evening
