Good afternoon! I've been working for about a month on an unofficial "operator's guide" for players to use for the upcoming Northeast Corridor: New York route. This guide uses references from numerous sources such as the Amtrak Employee Timetable and NORAC Operating Rules. This document was not created by Dovetail Games, nor to do they support or endorse it. It only applies to the main line tracks of the Northeast Corridor. The goal of this guide is to improve realism of the simulation by educating the people who play it. In many cases, we purchase routes and play them without any knowledge of the actual rules and regulations regarding that territory. I want to change that with this release since I have an intimate knowledge of it. Please note that not all the special instructions in the document will apply to operating the train in the game. This is because Dovetail Games may have omitted various features which real-life engineers encounter on a daily basis. Please let me know if you have any questions! The guide is attached to this thread.
Incredibly thorough. I'm not in the industry so all the jargon is going over my head for the most part. I'm sure I could relate back to this at some point for a better understanding of some things.
Yeah like the disclaimer states on the cover page, the original documents from which this was derived are extremely technical in nature. With time amd patience, even non-railroad employees can learn.
Astonishing work -- although that just applies to the document's 89-page length and the obviously detailed information. Will I ever make time to read the whole thing? I doubt it, but I'm impressed nonetheless. Now, if DTG will just tell us more about operating the Amtrak ACS-64 . . . Actually, what I'd really like to have available would be a session - scenario - tutorial: whatever they might like to call it for each engine available in TSW that would 1) provide a full, hands-on walk-through of all the controls and 2) allow driving the engine in a free-form environment with a variety of possible activities available -- a sort of playground with learning potential.
What I would like to see is DTG to stop making 5 min tutorials which really do not provide enough info to run a locomotive properly. I would rather like to see 20-30 minute tutorials giving more time to understand the locomotive you will be driving. Also they should be including some type of tutorial on signals so everyone has a better understanding of what the signals mean. I also agree that a free roam would nice giving you more opportunity to get used to the locomotive and how it operates.
This is fantastic! Really interesting. An in depth understanding of the route adds so much to immersion.
