Overview Part of the WYPTE network, the Huddersfield line blasts through the north of England. The origin of the route can be traced to the original London and Northwestern Railway. Electrification is scheduled for 2022. The track amounts to about 49 miles. Rolling Stock Class 142 (Northern) (image credit Wikipedia user El Pollock) This class of 96 units were built by BREL on the platform of the original Leyland bus, along with the Class 141. They were originally used on branch lines, however now days they are commonly found on commuter routes in North England. They are currently operated by Arriva Trains Wales and Northern. The Northern units have seating for either 106, 114, or 121 people per 2 car set. Performance Table: Construction: Steel underframe, riveted steel body and roof. Engines: One Cummins LT10-R of 225 hp at 1950 rpm. Couplers: BSI outer ends, bar inside unit. Dimensions: 15.55 m x 2.8 m Gangways: Within unit. They were built for an obligation of the new First TransPennine Express. The obligation called for new trains which would be similar in type to Coradia and Voyager units. Dimensions: 23.75 m m x 2.66 m Gangways: Within unit. Wheel Arrangement: 2-B + 2-B + B-2 Doors: Twin-leaf sliding plug. Maximum Speed: 100 mph. Seating Layout: 2+1 or 2+2 unidirectional/facing. I am surprised that this route has not found it`s way on TS yet.Also the possibility of extending it to Liverpool and/or York But I think I read somewhere that it might be licence problems for Trans Pennine Express.But we live in hope.
