Without layer flattening, 300 isn't close to enough. I just did a logo that took 62- multiply by four, and there goes most of the layer budget. And weathering takes huge numbers.

    Thank you very much!
    Green:
    H: 123
    S: 97
    V: 17

    Yellow:
    H: 38
    S: 100
    V: 87

    Gold (lower horizontal strip):
    H: 35
    S: 100
    V: 80

Exactly, the main "Freightliner" writing is 56 layers, multiplied by 2 for both sides, and I had to do a "low res" version of the writing to put below the cab windows (that's why it looks so bad) because obviously 56x6 = 336, because projection can't be used.

Other details that can't make use of projection (railings, black headlights, running number) can end up using a lot of the available layers as well, leaving little space for small details and weathering.

Usually, even with my level of madness I manage to keep my writings and logos to about ~20/35 layers because I use the stock font and tweak it where necessary, but due to how the Freightliner writing is in the prototype this was not an option this time.

I might go back and see if I can optimize something but I think realistically I could save only ~5/15 layers which would not be enough to add anything significant to the livery anyway.

Also thanks a.paice without his tip this livery wouldn't have been possible, because I was using ~10 layers of curved pieces to cover the front of the loco underneath the roof but managed to get away with 2 ovals

This is what I'm talking about: 298 layers, without a speck of dust or rust added. I can't even paint the handrails!

I'd say if you remove cab numbers and the csxt it would give you room for handrails and rust. Since the dumb program is just going to random generate number boards that don't match up it makes it hard to add numbers on the actual design.

Wow, all very useful. Will have a go myself, imagine to do it right, 6+ hours?

Yep, Freightliner is pretty difficult due to the complexity of recreating the writing in the side, I'd say GBRf is a lot easier.

    66504freight.jpeg
Hopefully one day I'll have enough courage and try to replicate that, how nice from them to use a completely different font :D

Anyway I remade from scratch the whole area under the windows of the loco, allowing me to fix the wonky-ness? and free up enough layers, also I've made big overall improvements using some close ups I found on YT

    Screenshot_20210301-142933_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20210301-142633_Gallery.jpg
I'd say that is finally done! Now, I have my Freightliner 66 as well!

That buys me 16 layers, which is just enough for handrails done the right way. Or 4 for quickie handrails, leaving just 12 for weathering- not remotely enough for a decent job.

Besides, the CSX numbering and reporting marks are sort of the point of this pack: CSX locomotives still in their fallen flag liveries, as was quite common through the 90s. And, unsurprisingly, all beat to hell:

It is an excellent job, the only thing I struggled with when I did the GBRf br blue was the numbers. My view is leave the numbers off as it breaks emersion when you see two rolling by with same number set. However that might be my ocd rather than game breaking! :)

My OCD works the opposite..... seeing locos or stock with nothing on at all is the emersion breaker.

It's been half a year of us saying over and over "we need more layers, more layers, more layers"... it would really help to have... more layers :D Especially when the game then still bakes it into a fancy overcompressed JPEG before using it. C'mon, DTG, 1000 would probably be enough... probably... hopefully... ok, 2000. :D

Thanks, I agree that's one of the reasons I'm focusing so much on the 66 for creating liveries... unless SE HS only counts the last 2 liveries like LGV there should be less and less chance of seeing the same one spawning twice.
I've got 3 GBRf (two very similar ones and the BR Blue one - 66747, 66792 and 66789), and now I have 66531 in Freightliner livery as well.

Well I've made a start on my first autorack. I've done a UP version with the UP crest in the end section which isn't where it should be located but I don't think it looks too bad.

I'm starting to add the weathering now with various rust streaks being added everywhere and I also want to adjust the colour of the yellow to be more faded/dulled. Anyway it's a start.... Let's see how it comes along.

You could just say it's still a L&N unit fresh from La Grange so that would excuse it having no dirt!

Oh I see you are going for a CSX theme..gotcha!

Well, with some economies and some judicious desaturation I was able to add a moderate level of cack, but this loco isn't remotely as cruddy as I wanted it to be, and I had to use a lot of simple tricks in place of the more subtle but layer-costly ones.

    We need layer flattening!

Cab numbers: yes, it's annoying that they don't match the boards (why can't DTG let us have that field?), but it's even more jarring if there are no cab numbers at all- the one you notice if you concentrate, the other jumps out at a glance.

Done some more work on the UP autorack fading/dulling down the yellow paint even more to make it look older and added a fair few more rust streaks/stains. I also did a BNSF version which again shouldn't have the logo in the end sections of the vehicle but it's the best we can do with this model. I also had a go at making an area look like someone had wiped the grime away to reveal the BNSF logo..... Or wiped the grime away to apply a new BNSF logo down along the bottom of the vehicle.

They are getting there but might still have a little tinker with them. I may also use the pair of them as templates to create newer/cleaner versions of the same vehicles so that in theory a player train could contain the original CSX version along with a clean and a grimy version of each of these to add to the mix. 2021-03-02 (3).jpg 2021-03-02 (4).jpg 2021-03-02.jpg 2021-03-02 (1).jpg

And a couple of images of them actually in the game..... The yellow of my UP autorack is just slightly different to the CSX version so doesn't blend in too much. TSW2_David_1614685133_00.jpg TSW2_David_1614685219_00.jpg TSW2_David_1614685248_00.jpg

I think I'm happy with them now...... They've each got in the region of 220-ish layers so I may still add some more touches but I think I'll add them to TSC as they are. Still toying with doing a couple of cleaner versions of them also. I figure I'll do a Seaboard System, a Family Lines and a Chessie, and upload them as another pack (sadly, Clinchfield never owned any GP38s)

I’ve been tryin to create a livery series within a number group but the copy livery tool stopped working and now deletes my entire livery collection after receiving a “something went wrong” message. I learned the hard way the first time as I lost my liveries without backing anything up. I’ve been backing everything up now, however I’m not even able to copy anything without it deleting all liveries at once. Regardless, Here’s a few from that group.

I got inspired but your livery and decided to take a shot at a CT Rail livery myself. Didn't do a McGinnis like you did. Instead, I took both their loco and coach liveries and put my own simple Twist on it.
    20210303_101014_HDR.jpg
Im now currently working on an NJT (lost all of my previous liveries but redid the LIRR and SEPTA liveries and was able to do a better job this second time around) as well as a Metro North M8 livery.
    Thanks for the inspiration!!!
BTW, that CTr logo was a real pain to make!

in 2018 a very important pool tournament was held in Germany and Hyperton way hired to operate special ICE trains to and from the tournament. at the time Hyperton only had a few ICE trainsets operated by DB, all of which were painted white with a blue stripe, and a HYPERTON Germany logo painted on the café car. however for the tournament Hyperton repainted 4 of their fleet in a special "8 Ball" livery. once the tournament was over hyperton began painting their locomotives and rolling stock in a new livery they called "BB" in which each type of rolling stock got a number and the color of the pool ball that went with it. the box cars received the number "2" and basically became the standard hyperton box car except with blue paint and a big number 2 instead of the Hyperton logo.
    20210303125638_1.jpg
(I'll see if I can get around to doing the rest of the BBs today)
