Hi all So this has started occurring today. I cant get the game to work. Does anyone know what can cause this? The only thing I have done today (with a dell support assistant) is a BIOS update to most current one and then I had to log back into Steam. Any ideas?
Im not sure as yet if it’s dx12 not being used as that seemed to cure or a deeper issue with my bios. It’s a 6month old machine so getting my moneys worth out of Alienware support
chieflongshin If you want to try and load up your machine without the game itself to see if it is stable I would suggest furmark https://geeks3d.com/furmark/ and nvidia RTX demos. I use furmark to burn in new motherboards and cards while watching with cpu-z and gpu-z to make sure its stable when it gets hot and to make sure all the cooling fans spin up and work properly and the temperature plateaus instead of continuing to climb from hot to cook and perhaps even fire. There are plenty of things here that will make your computer work hard https://www.nvidia.co.uk/coolstuff/demos they will help validate stability and some of them are fun to watch. Paul
Thank you paul.pavlinovich That’s useful to know. I have run memory diagnostics which it’s passed , bios is up to date as it should be but the BSOD relates to this file. “Ntoskrnl.exe+3f5c20” ive run a few google searches which led me to check all my drivers and run diagnostics so I’ll likely be on phone tomorrow. I’m not sure if it’s a compatibility issue with steam as that seems to be the common denominator. I could be wrong but I’ll see what their support says tomorrow.
Didn't you post in the other forum section it was working on Thursday? https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/pc-experts-help-needed-game-wont-load.36469/#post-262750
I think you will need to raise a ticket for this. I am still trying to get my head round exactly what you have done though. In the other thread you say you had to update the BIOS. Why was that? On a 6 month old machine it should come with a recent BIOS. I have only ever updated the BIOS on much older machines when I bought new hardware that the BIOS had trouble recognising. So what triggered you to update the BIOS? Was it an email from Alienware / a pop-up from Alienware diagnostic software (I know Asus AI Suite does this) or something somebody outside Alienware support recommended for better performance or other reasons? Again in the other thread you said you uninstalled and reinstalled and removed a mod for SEHS. So are you running a totally vanilla (out of the box) version of TSW or did you reload the mod as well? You talk about DX12. The store page for TSW doesn't mention DX12 and I don't know much about it. I know my graphics card supports it but I have no idea if it is in use for TSW or any other game, I just let the PC do it's stuff. Are you forcing DX12 to be used with some kind of command line option in the shortcut? Finally, if TSW the only game affected? Can you run other games without errors? Please don't think I am pushing all the "blame" onto you for this. I am just trying to get the full picture and the time it takes to document it will be time well spent if you end up in discussion with Dovetail support since they will be asking the same questions.
Ah no that’s fine , happy to answer. Bios update was as a result of Alienware software wanting it updating from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4. This is done. Complete reinstallation of tsw. Steam up to date. Running on dx11 now Only mod being run is the SEHS one which added maps etc. I was getting a bsod error which seems to trigger when using steam games, this is under investigation. The above screen I’ve had 5-10 times not whilst in the game, only the menus. The bsod error which may or not be related, impact/not impact is below. Trying to suss this one out.
