This route is a great combination of high speed travel and commuter trains. The Class 390 and 350 are also incredible in my opinion, they would be an awesome edition to the game.
Keeping in mind that there's nada chance of seeing the entire WCML in the game, which section of the route would you want to see?
Exactly the problem. Euston to Milton Keynes at the southern end might be doable, or Coventry to Wolverhampton. However the extent seen in the various TS sections, Glasgow to Carlisle, Carlisle to Preston etc seems unlikely to become a reality.
My preference would be London Euston to Milton Keynes with the Watford DC line. Would open up a lot more variety with intercity (390), regional (350) and Overground (378 or 710s. Unsure which run on this route but both could realistically end up in game once day) services (and the bakerloo line 72 stock could be used to layer in AI services between Harrow and Wealdstone and Queens Park). Edit: Q, Is there any freight for freight fans?
So here is my suggestion in full. West Coast Main Line Preston to Carlisle Distance Aprrox 90miles/145km Leaving Preston you get the speed section up to Lancaster Photo is taken near Barton After Lancaster you pass Hest Bank (Photo 2) and Carnforth. Hest Bank is the only part of the WCML which actually is on the coast. After Carnforth you head up to Oxenholme and the run along the edge of the Lake District and climb up past Tebay (Photo 3) and to the summit of Shap (Photo 4). Before then heading down into Penrith. The last section is another section of sprinting upto Carlisle. For moden day you could use Avanti WC Class 221 Super Voyager Class 390 Pendolino Trans Pennine Express Class 185 Class 397 Nova 2 Class 350/4 (Which was replaced by the Nova 2s).
