When they are able to do steam I am curious as to the favorite steam locomotives folks may want to see. I was thinking of possible locomotives that still exist today. Here are my suggestions. If you have some you would like to see please consider adding them to the thread. 1. Norfolk and Western J class 611, I've actually had the chance to operate the 611 and I consider it to be the finest Steam locomotive still operational in the USA. It runs smoothly and you can tell the power it has when you crack open the throttle. Would probably need a new route to go with it. 2. Chesapeake and Ohio 2716 would be a good fit for sand patch as it is a C&O engine and is presently being restored. The organization restoring it is a great heritage organization and with seeing how their marketing works I could see them working with the developers of the games. 3. Western Maryland (C&O) 1309 also just returned to service and operates out of Cumberland. 4. Chessie 2101 Chessie Steam Special also viable for sand patch 5. Chessie 614 Chessie Steam Special 6. Challenger 3985 Could operate on the Clinchfield as well as any UP lines. Though I doubt they would run steam excursions on the Cane Creek Branch. Could operate on Peninsula corridor possibly. 7. Big Boy 4014 goes without saying largest steam locomotive in the world 8. Southern Pacific 4449 again an excursion legend still in operation 9. Nickle Plate 765 Same class as 2716 and still active as well Those are some of my top steam locomotives that are still active that could work in a multitude of eras. I'm really looking forward to steam making it's way into the game!! All of them have stokers or oil burners as well.
I'd love to see BR 9F 92220 Evening Star, the last steam locomotive built by British Railways in 1960
Since your suggestions are all American (no judgement on that) I will suggest some famous German steam engines: BR 01.10 BR 18.4 (bay. S 3/6) BR 19.0 (sächs. XX HV) BR 38.10 (preuß. P8) BR 18.3 (bad. IV h) BR 52 (KDL 1) BR 05
An Idea for a The first Steam Locomotive DLC suggestion can be add one of the steam locomotives from the West Somerset Railway example. GWR 7800 Class Another Suggestion is the New York Central Hudson Locomotive
I'd love to see the BR 18.3, the unstreamlined BR 01, the BR 52 or other DRG freight locos. Listed some others below . The 01s always had a particular glamour to me with their large wheels, both in their original condition, streamlined and as Reko-locos. Only the BR 18.3 looks more elegant. DR BR 01.5 (Reko) DR 18 201 (this was a one of) BR 01.10 BR 03 BR 44 DB BR 23 BR 95 Baureihe 38 All these locos had multiple modifications in their lifetime, most were built by the pre-war DRG or the many Länderbahnen that preceeded it (the BR 23 being a notable exception, it was built post-war by the DB), and then devided between the East-German DR and West-German DB, and modified differently by both companies. The East-German DR 'reconstructed' a lot of locos, as they continued using steam traction far beyond the service life of the original boilers, which had to be replaced.
Quick correction, this locomotive is actually Reading 2101, known for its role in pulling the freedom train. Chessie System painted it in Chessie colors for the Chessie Steam Special to celebrate the B&O Railroad's 150th anniversary. It was later damaged in a roundhouse fire, and is now on static display at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum. http://www.borail.org/aft.aspx
Going to be honest here and say if the first steam locomotive to arrive in TSW2 isn't British, I'll be very disappointed A 9F would be my absolute first choice
Yes I knew it was a Reading locomotive, and operated with the freedom train. As did the 4449, just figured the Chessie Steam Special would fit nicely with Sand Patch as it actually operated over the route. That actually made me realize too the Reading and Northern would be an amazing route for the game, for the folks that don’t know it’s a short line mainly anthracite coal hauling railroad in Eastern, PA. They also operate a steam excursion program and have restored one of the sister locomotive to the 2101 the 2102. It’s supposed to run later this year. They also operate the 425. I’ve ridden one of their excursions it’s mountain railroading and a very cool line!
She would be cool, I saw her in 2019 at the National Railway Museum in York, I believe it was Swindon built if I’m not mistaken? I only recently started getting in to UK steam, and it seems like there are many operable locomotives in the UK and still mainline running! Something that seems to come and go over here in the US. Pretty much just Union Pacific at the moment.
Another Idea I forgot about is Pennsylvania Railroad T-1 5550. It is presently being built by a preservation group in the USA. No T-1’s were saved from the scrappers torch so they are building a modern locomotive from the original PRR plans. They plan on using it to break the world record for top speed for a steam locomotive out at the FRA test facility in Pueblo, CO. It would be a very cool addition to the game as well, and as it is presently being built plans and such should be readily available.
I’d like to see Gresleys mighty A4 Pacifics, especially in LNER garter blue. It would be even better if they all had their names! I’m not sure about the copyrights of ripping images from the web but I think most of you know what they are.
How about US Army ALCO 4039. It's a military steam locomotive. The current location for it is the Whippany Steam Railway Museum in Whippany, NJ which is connected to NJ Transit Morristown Line a Train Sim 21 route via the Morristown & Erie Short Line
How about the Class 24 Steam Engine which is also used in West Germany during the post-war years predating the electrification of HRR HMA RRO RSN & MSB which caused those locomotives to be phased out when those lines are electrified from 1954-1967
What about the USATC S160? That locomotive model has been all over the world, and a good amount of them have made it to preservation status and are in running order. The only hard part would be choosing which one to build.
We can't forget the UP #844. She has never been retired. I'd also love the ATSF 4-8-4 #3751, the Flying Scotsman, Mallard, and the N&W locos. If we get NYC steam, I want the J1, J2, and J3 Hudsons (including the Empire State Express, Commodore Vanderbilt, and Dreyfuss Hudsons), the Niagara 4-8-4, and the Mowhawk 4-8-2. For PRR, the J1 2-10-4, S1, T1, Q1, and Q2 Duplexes, H10 Consolidation, M1a/M1b Mountain, S1 Steam Turbine, and B6sb 0-6-0 Switcher. I also want an Erie or Virginian Triplex and Allegheny (Erie) or Blue Ridge (Virginian) 2-6-6-6.
My suggestion is 2-8-4 Berkshire Pere Marquette 1225 (The main reason is to replicate a double header that happened in Huntington WV in 1991 w/ NKP 765)
