Would hump yards work in TS. I'm no expert, but I've not seen any referred to in TS so far.? It would be interesting if they did! May even have a sub-game in there - Train Simulator: Yardmaster!
No physics engine for the cars wouldn't allow it to work unfortunately as it would automatically apply the brakes after a certain point or even derail the cars
Ditto on this suggestion. Bailey Yard is massive. If we get the yard, we'd need the UP Kearney Sub from North Platte/Bailey Yard-Grand Island, NE. As for locomotives, I want to see SD70AH-T4s, ET44ACs, ES44ACs, SD90s, SD70Ms, SD60s/SD60Ms, SD59MXs, C40-8s/Ws/C41-8Ws, C44-9Ws, GP60s, GP40Ns, AC6000CWs, etc. Rolling stock would include autoracks, coal hoppers/gondolas, intermodal well cars, boxcars, tank cars, covered hoppers, and reefers.
Many routes, such as Cajon, Donner, Sherman include relatively big yards - most US routes have one. Ignoring the cost of locos included... Look at a sizeable yard on either of these routes, how they look empty. Now, place consists on it. What happens? The only way this works is using cardboard trains. There are some, but not that many. This is on Hamburg-Hannover. It has a huge complex (Maschen Yard/s) but I haven't really seen it used more than a random lineside multiloop. There is a similar one on Köln-Koblenz and that really doesn't perform well either. Small yards are actually better for the game experience because you can reasonably fill them. This is Cajon and pretty much stretching the limits of TSC (depends a lot on asset quality - lower is better):
