Hi all, Quick question. I'm wanting to install some sound mods for US content. The install instructions state the to put the files in the audio folders of the particular loco, but most of the locos I have are using .ap files to save space. Now, I'm wondering, can I simply drag and drop the modified sound files into the .ap file or do I have to extract the .ap file before I add the custom sounds? Thanks Jamie
You have to extract the files, I use 7zip, and then you can put the new audio files in the correct folders. Make sure you keep the file structure the same Do Not attempt to modify the *.ap file Steam would see the file as Faulty and replace it with a fresh version
I don't think you have to. I've made a couple of sound mods that work without extracting the .ap file (ok, to be more precise, no one's told me it doesn't work), although admittently the downloads only contain the proxyxml files, not actual sound files as I believe you're alluding to in your post. I'd try just simply dragging and dropping but if it makes no difference then extract the .ap file (or even just use 7zip to extrac.
They contain the new .dav files as well. The readme just said to overwrite the originals, as they have the same filename.
If a file is outside the *.ap file the game uses that one first . If it does not find a file it uses the version in the *.ap file. I think the problem with the Readme is it pre-dates the release of the model in the new file system
Ok cool. So I can just extract the files i need to the assets folder without having to go into the .ap file or would it be best to extract the .ap file and go from there?
Personally I would extract the *.ap file with 7Zip and use the command line "Extract here" It put all the folders and sub-folders in their correct place. Then copy across the audio file as per the instructions Peter
Personally, I'd only extract a .ap file if I need to access soemthing, so I'd put the files straight into the folder, but if it doesn't work, extract the .ap file.
