    Hey people.

I'm currently new in TSW 2020 (bought it a couple of months ago) and I'm quite enjoying it. But I gotta ask, so far I'm only finding freight and passengers scenarios and timetables. I'm looking for some shunting action. Does somebody know how to find them?

Currently, I have MSB, NTP, LIRR, RT, GWE and NEC (all of them in the base Train Sim World 2020 in PS4) and I'm struggling to find some shuntings.

Edit: Kinda new member, I just got my account today but I've been lurking for a bit, I've read Tees has some scenarios, but I want to make sure I have a nice variety before buying a DLC

    Tees valley has some shunting.
BR Heavy Freight pack has shunting too (add-on for NTP).
I also think that Oakville Sub Division has a bit of shunting.

Thanks for the advice. Might as well buy a DLC, there is a sale going on right now

Just an FYI, if you buy any DLC for TSW2020, it will carry over with you when/if you upgrade to TSW2 (the TSW2 versions of any DLC you purchase will show as free).
NEC is the only route that doesn't carry over.

Just be careful and make sure you buy the correct DLC. The best way to ensure you have the correct version (TSW2020 and not TSW2) is to go to PS store through the in-game menu or through the drop down menu under the game tile on the home screen.

Nice advice. I'll be careful about what I'll buy. I think TSW2 Deluxe is currently on sale, but I might get a different DLC instead

Out of those routes you mentioned, NEC has some very good shunting scenarios with the GP38-2. In particular, the scenario Trash Collector
As someone else mentioned, Oakville Subdivision has a lot of good shunting and general freight yard work
Northern Trans Pennine has good shunting with the Class 08
Ruhr Sieg Nord also has good shunting with the DB 363 and 204.
Peninsula Corridor has some shunting with the GP-38. The MP15DC DLC adds lots of good shunting services

If you decide to get TSW2, Sand Patch Grade also has good shunting

Whatever you choose, you'll have lots of fun. Enjoy!

Also West Somerset Railway has some good shunting which I discovered from the short time I’ve played it, just be be aware of the stuck on a red light bug? on the Minehead 2 task. VERY! frustrating it is. It might only be a bug if you download WSR as a TSW2 download rather than a TSW2020 download which I mistakenly did when I first got TSW2 and before I found out about the free TSW2020 carry overs.

Mind you, the shunters for those routes are separate DLCs. The 363 is TSW2-only. (The 204 is a DLC for MSB, not RSN. But then the OP is in luck, because MSB is part of the base 2020 bundle)

On the subject of shunting could someone please give me tips on how you actually read the map when shunting with regards to working out which points to change so that I can reach the required line I need to be in?

At the moment I’m getting out of the cab and running up and down the lines to actually look at the points and then I’m changing them manually accordingly. Not ideal because it’s time consuming and I’m not as fit as I used to be. LOL! Much better if I can work it all out by using the map but it’s a bit baffling tbh. Any advice on how to work out which points I need to change by using the map would be much appreciated.

Sure. Call up the 2D map (9 key on PC, not sure what the controller command is). Or you can access it from the pause screen, BUT- this is a big but - you cannot change any switches while the game is paused! This however still can be useful for checking if things as they stand are as you want them.

Anyway- let's assume you are live and your loco is stopped (try to avoid doing this while moving). In the map, each manual switch is represented by a little blue circle with a triangle in it. If you hover the cursor over one, you'll see that a purple line segment appears, showing the current routing through that switch. If you click on the switch symbol, the switch will change and the purple line will move: you want to align it with the blue desired-route trace. (Every once in a great while you will encounter a three-way switch; these work the same way but may require multiple clicks).

Thanks for replying with that guide it’s very much appreciated because I do find shunting a bit of a headache at the moment.

I will give it a go later on tonight.

Edit.... Another shunting question. I’ve just completed a task on Trans Pennine where I had to pull a train out of a station and take it to some sidings, uncouple the coaches and them move forward to shunt the still attached loco into another siding. I did this blind in reverse but was I supposed to change cabs into the towed loco?? The prompts didn’t tell me to though.

    Sorry the late reply.

There are some scenarios (if I'm not mistaken, that is the Emergency Aid scenario or something like that) wich you need to reach a train to attach it to yours. If I read your question correctly, you won't need to change cabs in order to reverse into a train in a rescue because you'll most likely switch back to the original cab once attached. You can just reverse until attachment.
