https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/21/can...buy-kansas-city-southern-for-25-billion-.html What do you guys think? I heard this on the radio this morning and for me it comes as sad news since I always liked the KCS locos. But there’s some environmental benefits too which offsets it a bit. Either way, this is a place for discussion, so go ahead and discuss!
This will be the first one-railroad route from Canada to Mexico, and the US Gulf coast. I can't help but think that the decider for CP was the recent cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline, meaning that Canadian oil will need another mode of transport to the refineries in the southern US. But it is a shame that in the US we are down to just four giant freight railroads, plus two Canadian (CN also owns some US trackage) where there used to be dozens.
