I have the deadman switch cut-in (default is off). So when I get out of the seat for coupling or taking a look round, the vacuum pump goes down to 0. When I sit back down it does not fill again? Using the vacuum pump switch doesn't do anything at this point (I have left it on 1 all the time). Releasing train vacuum brake from full service to release does not take the brakes off.

To sort it you have to toggle the deadman to cut out and then then stand up. Then you sit back down and put it back to cut-in. The other way is to move the main switch to open and then close again without needing to stand up.

Is the vacuum pump meant to fill back up without doing these steps? When you sit down that would mean the pedal is pressed so shouldn't it go up? Also on the subject of the main switch, why does it not need to be open/closed when you raise the pantograph? On the German locos, you have to close the MCB after raising the pantograph.

Does what you suggest for refilling the vacuum brakes air supply also help if you get stopped by the in cab saftey systems if after the redlight locks the brakes and stops your train?

Moving the main switch open back to close does that too if you forget to acknowledge.
