Hoonestly, this was only made for peoples favourite train and what do they think is the oldest, Not whats really older

 

Posting this in a forum of train nerds is always likely to gain "the correct answer" as much as "the emotive answer"

 

One of a few shunter classes including the 09 and 11 (built for the LMS in the '40s) that started with shunters built by English Electric in the '30s most of which went overseas with the War Department although a couple entered service becoming Class 12. I don't about the Class 12s but I believe the only significant difference between the other classes is the gearing. There's a Class 10 which has a different engine.

 

If the list is based on "introduction into service" rather than "refurb/upgrade", then the EMD road switchers should be backdated to 1965.

 

Except the Dash 2's were made new in the 70s and 80s, and not rebuilt into Dash 2s. So it is based on their production time, not refurb.
