Just a heads up: There have been a lot of updates, on a lot of vehicles on the AP website. Some good features. The 350 EP has had some great updates, including working GSM-R, and the 37s have had "power factor" added... Download the update log at https://www.armstrongpowerhouse.com/free_download/support/AP_Update_Log.pdf Don't forget to re-install branding packs etc.
Garfields Teddy Bear Actually in most cases you shouldn't need to dl the branding packs these are not mentioned by Richard - unless you know something that I don't? pH
Yes, I know that I installed the 319 update, and the 86 update, and didn't apply the branding pack, and it had no branding. Why else would I say that? [edit] Also, on Alan Thomson's stream last night, he also had no branding on his 350 after applying the update. I know that too.
Does anyone know when AP posts an update (ie: 37 pack, vol.1 which I bought on 31/12/20 & was last updated on 24/3/21), do you have to download the whole pack again or does it just update the bits that it needs??? Cheers Eric
Yes the whole pack gets downloaded, I'm finding time consuming keeping up to date with their updates. BTW Eric I see you have the Class 86 EP from AP. VulcanProcutions have free reskins of the 86 in original blue and with alpha numeric headcodes, Go nicely with at coach packs you now have.
yes, some of the updates are just about scenario editor issues, so nothing vital that makes you need to download it again. I look to see what the changes are and if it’s going to improve what I use it for.
AP customers would really benefit from some kind of download management software that sits aside from Steam, a bit like the ATS installer, but AP specific.
Am I right in thinking that most of the AP sounds packs will work with standard DTG rolling stock (I have all of them) but with Enhancement Packs you have to swap out the DTG stock with the AP supplied liveried stock. (I have none of these). Also following a validation of the files should all these packs be re-installed. (I also have the track and weather packs.)
Yes. They are designed to work with the standard rolling stock. Each sound pack will advise you on the requirements for it if you look on the AP website. I'm not sure I understand. The enhancement packs, don't replace anything. For example, the Class 86 enhancement pack requires the standard DTG class 86 to work, but it doesn't replace it. I can still use the standard 86 if I wish. Validating files will not remove or replace most AP products. It may replace other 3rd party reskins and hacks etc though.
Yes I quite agree... it's quite a tedious & time consuming process looking, cross checking & downloading everything...
I would hazard a guess that only the sound packs would be affected by a validation, I was under the impression they replaced default files?
^This. Sorry if it wasn't clear. AP enhancement packs will not be affected. The older suond packs may be I would imagine, but just re-install them again. There should be no reason to validate files unless something is broken though. Just keep a back up of your working railworks folder, and fix problems by putting your files back yourself. I can't remember the last time I validated files via steam.
I'm not sure what you mean by "AP liveried 86s". The AP enhancement pack is what GIVES you the AP liveries - it's part of the pack. Without it, you won't have any other liveries. It will not apply any new liveries to any standard DTG 86. Your original DTG class 86 will still be there, exactly as it is. Once you install the AP enhancement pack, you will get a new class 86 in your menus, along with the old one.
Thank you for your patience with a doddery old man. AP says of the Valenta 43 pack - "During the installation process, this pack will be applied to the liveries included in this enhancement pack." The bit I am confused about is whether the pack will be applied to my existing DTG class 43 Valentas as well as the liveries included in the enhancemant pack.
It means the same thing. As an example, I have all three Armstrong Powerhouse enhancement packs. However, prior to installing them, I had two "normal" HSTs; The Intercity 125 livery that comes with all Versions of Train Sim because it's part of the European Loco Pack, and the First Great Western that came with... not sure which route now, but probably The Riviera Line. After installing all three AP HST packs, I still have them, as separate locos in my menus, and they still behave exactly as they did... complete with rubbish sound. Every livery that came with every AP packs is now in a separate menu, and they're all listed with (AP) appended to their names. If you had only one HST prior to installing.. after installing you will have 2. One will be your unmolested original, and the other will be where all your AP versions are... like this...
I didn't realise that, how do you access that? ETA: worked it out, in the consist list as you put a screenshot of above,
If one has "senior moment" (ahem) and forgets if an AP pack has already been updated, does it matter if it is reinstalled again???
Shouldn't think so, as practically it's no different from installing an update over a previous version.
Eric No but remember to always clear the "C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Downloaded Installations" folder after any AP install/reinstall. Richard uses an outmoded msi installer and that leaves behind a possible reinstall file (not needed) the same size as the original install. pH
PH... Do i just delete that file then??? Also my Steam files / TS files are stored on my D:\ drive, will that make any difference to where the file you mentioned is located Cheers Eric (PS: I'm not too hot when it comes to techie stuff like this...!!!)
Just delete those files yes. The location is system based, nothing to do with where Steam and TS are, so if Windows is on C, it will be there. (You might possibly have to change folder/file settings to ‘show hidden folders’ to navigate to it, I forget off hand.) That tip is really handy, as I found about 30GB of useless files I could delete.
Just noticed the AP Track has been updated - listed as updated on 31 March, but not on the Updates PDF yet. Must be for a new route?
