Quick question re: the JT packs. How do they work if you install them but launch TS through Steam? I ask as others have said don't buy the ones from Steam if you want the extensions.
Nick... as far as I'm aware once you've installed them they'll automatically appear in the route menu (if you know what I mean???) regardless of who you bought the route from... The only time it doesn't happen (to me anyway) is when I've d/loaded a freeware route but hadn't unpacked / installed it properly... All was sorted though when I reached out for help on the forum & the kind chaps helped me sort it... Shouldn't really happen with the "major players" as they'll have installers which should sort it all out (saying that I'm having issues installing AP's Mk1 coach pack!!!)... If my advice is wrong then I'm sorry, someone will be along shortly to shoot me down in flames & give you some proper advice... Eric
It will be in your game whether you launch directly through steam or via desktop shortcut, once installed the files are in your RailWorks folders just the same as if you added a dlc from the steam store.
I bought the MML Sheffield to Derby, but son took over the PC before I could install it, so will have to savour the delights later!
Makes you wonder why JT put it on Steam then, as they cannot make any extra money from the add-on packs, not very good financial business practice and customers don't benefit. Unless JT put the add-ons onto Steam in the future!!!! Cheerz. Steve.
The JT packs come with a simple installer, they show up in your routes as usual just that they only have Standard scenarios not Career ones.
I think it must be because a fair amount of TS users pretty much only download from Steam and nowhere else. I can understand it on some levels, but at the same time looking at the reviews for it on Steam most of their routes get slaughtered there due to missing bits (and some users don't realise that half the map is missing on MML because it's just the SHF-DBY bit and not Erewash or Derwent, because they don't read product descriptions).
I like the 4-Ceps having done loads of trips in real life. If I was going to Europe before the Chunnel was built it would be a 12-Cep (3x4) from London Victoria to Folkestone Hbr or Dover Western Docks for a ship to France or Belgium And the AP version recreates the sounds of these fine units. Even though the Faversham and Chatham routes are after when the sets finished modellers licence has me running them And the units on the Portsmouth Direct ran in to the South Western Trains era The AP pack is good to drive and there are a number of features with the different operation of the doors and other stuff I have not found
DTG are unlikely to advertise AP as they work in competition AP do their own advertising on their Facebook page and in online Simulator groups - like UKTS

Quick question about AP sound packs. Will the loco/unit be replaced by the AP version or will the AP version act as a separate unit? Just wondering if I ever tool the plunge into AP whether it would affect any workshop items I post as I'd prefer not to create scenarios that require a lot of non-steam items.
The sound packs replace the sound. You will not have two versions. I can only vouch for the ones I have though.
Hmmm, they are just brand new enginesounds they don't affect the actual locomotive model, there aren't any repaints in the packs so you shouldn't have any workshop scenario problems as such, that depends on the timings of the trains, if the tractive effort and other specifications have been amended by the script writers in these new AP sound files, then the locos might go a bit quicker, which might help you get to your destination quicker and you gets lots more points, that's one theory, anyway.......lol Cheerz. Steve.
The AP Sound Packs just add different sounds but they don't change how the train operates. AP Enhancement Packs add sounds and features to trains that you have already purchased It does so by creating another version of what you have with an AP suffix Before purchasing either check you have the correct train is applies to - The Class 68 EP pack does not work with the Fife Circle locos for example AP Rolling Stock packs are independent of everything - you do not need to pre own anything. Scenarios come with the EP and stock packs which require a lot of other AP stuff but there is no need to purchase something for a couple of scenarios if you are not going to use it otherwise Peter
So I've gone all in on the JT Midland Mainline and very nice it is too. Is their 222 worthwhile whilst it's in the sale?
Thank you for this information. So just to clarify - if I did buy a sound pack it won't have any effect on scenarios I create for the Workshop (i.e. subscribers don't need the pack also), the enhancement pack effectives creates clones so I can still create workshop scenarios that use the original non-AP stock?
Yes definitely, it is a cracking drive. The only issue I had was the sounds, to me they were like a quite in your face drone which put me off but easily solved with the AP Sound pack currently on sale for £2.99 https://www.armstrongpowerhouse.com/index.php?route=pro222duct/search&search=222
After years of being tempted I've finally bought something off the AP website. Got myself the Weather and Sky Pack, 33 sound pack and 47 sound pack.
Enjoy they are great. Once you have installed the 33 sound pack go grab this. https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/class-33-throttle-and-brake-improvement-patch/ It makes a massive difference to performance & handling, it really makes it driveable and enjoyable.
Thank you very much for pointing this out, Peter. I nearly did exactly this today, wrongly thinking the 175 enhancement pack would work on Welsh Marches (I dont have the Bristol to Swansea route, only the shorter Bristol to Cardiff section).
Baffled, I have no idea, I have been running that patch over the AP Sound pack for the last 6 months no problem. As far as I am aware the patch does not alter anything image wise just the performance settings. Just a thought, have you other re-skins installed with your 33? just wondering if you have a conflict going on.
I don’t think I have. I guess I can reinstall the sound pack and see what happens. I could see a conflict with an EP or something, but a sound pack?!
If that doesn't work I would be tempted to re-download the original 33 from steam, then install the AP sound pack and then lastly drop the throttle & brake patch into the Class 33 folder. Hopefully that should solve it.
Yeah, the scenery on SWC mk2 route annoys me (trees popping in and out, almost of different styles, and distracting while driving - seen it on multiple streams) so I might hold off till it comes down in price a bit further in a sale. But after an amazing experience driving AP's 150/2 over the last couple of months, I'm keen to try more AP stuff around Wales. Presumably, if I were to get SWC mk2, and the AP 175 enhancement pack, I could use the enhanced 175 with QD and make scenarios for Welsh Marches and the SWC/Welsh Marches merged route though?
It's some sort of virtual celebration of all things train related, not just TS. It would be nice if there is some kind of discount.

Caledonia Works have their Spring sale if you like steamers, especially quirky ones. Edit: it ends today I have just noticed
Next Steam sale is suggested to be end of May before the big Summer sale at the end of June. Not sure about JT sale dates.
