    Hi all...

does anyone know when vigilance devices began to be fitted to trains??? Was just curious as I ran a Class 50 this morning from Waterloo to Pompey with the vigilance device active however I was using a 1990's NSE stock formation & was wondering if the vigilance device would have been fitted to 50's in the 1990's???

I'm fairly certain they began to be fitted in the 80s... That correct Peter?

I've seen some reports of the devices being fitted to HSTs "out of the box" so that would be 75. Not sure about retrofitting to existing units

The Nullarbor Plain in Australia boasts the longest straight section of track in the world, 250 miles or more, which could have an hypnotic effect on drivers. Trains on the line have had a vigilance system at least since the '70s when I watched a Great Railway Journeys that covered it.

Yes. I said they were fitted by 1990 - ie before 1990 so in the 1980s
