  1. I found myself discussing the representation of modern UK content in TSW2 in a different thread, so I'm taking it here.

Some of my sources may slightly outdated, so please do correct me if I'm wrong.

Counting those in the roadmap, we have a total of 23 British trains in TSW2 (considering the 1938 Stock and Class 483 as different trains).

Out of these trains, these 5 are the only ones to have been built post 1990: Class 377, Class 375, Class 465, Class 395 and Class 66. Let's consider these trains "modern" (I'm being very generous here, 1990 is 31 years away, over half of a normal train's lifespan).

This means that about 22% of British trains in the game are modern, as opposed to German stock, where anything older than 30 years old is an anomaly.

This is not a complaint, but I want to know what the community thinks about this. Do you guys think we need more modern stock, or are most of us satisfied with the old goodies?

I think we need more modern Northern England content before we do any more old stuff. Although I do enjoy the old rolling stock, I think adding modern trains from the North would bring a lot more players to TSW. The North has no modern trains at the moment. I live in the South East so I'm happy about what is being brought to TSW with the modern 3rd rail trains but the game seriously needs to do more with the North.

  3. I think that Cathart Circle is a good attempt at exploring Scotland, and even though the class 314 is fairly old, it was ahead of its time and at the end of the day it is a british electric, which there aren't that many of in the game.

Yes, I keep forgetting it. I'm looking forward to it, although I did want another loco coming with it

Depends. I'd only want to see more modern stock if recreated properly with a reasonable amount of systems functionality, rather than the incredibly limited representations in units like the 377 and 395, but also other essentials in older stock like destination/announcement controllers which are currently being omitted.

I'd like older AC stuff, such as the Class 86, but on modern routes. So double-header 86s on container services would be great to see in TSW. The WCML Trent Valley would be a good route for this purpose.

We haven't had anything AC wise for UK content apart from the Class 395, which doesn't even run on a conventional AC British line in the first place.

I'd prefer some more older stuff. Although we've had our share of BR Blue locos, I'd love to see some more BR Green stuff.

Or something in Intercity Swallow livery. I love that livery. Makes even the IC125 look good. :P

    Define modern, though!
As an old fart, to me a Class 150 or 158 are modern trains, even though these have been round nearly as long now if not longer than the old DMUs when they replaced them. Likewise Voyagers and Pendolinos have actually been in service many years, but regarded as modern plastic by those of us who preferred a Class 45 or 46 belching out diesel and steam heat or a Class 83 roaring away on the Master Cobbler up to Tring Cutting.

I'm happy with a mix of older and newer trains. I am happy we'll see AC on Cathcart, I'm a little bored of DC rail at the moment. What I would like to see is a post-1995 north of the midlands route (diesel).

I would say modern is trains from the last 20 years like the Electrostars which seem new but came into service in the early 2000s. The UK doesn't get as many new trains as Germany so for Germany Modern would be the last 15 years to me.

The easiest way of getting "modern" trains from UK in game would be the GEML with the new trains there.
I think it's difficult for DTG to think about creating new trains when there aren't the routes for them necessarily

A problem with doing the BR Green era is that it would't look right without steam engines as well

Considering steam is coming to TSW2, wouldn't the BR Green era provide a nice opportunity to add steam locomotives to routes through loco add-ons and layering systems?

Although any UK steam locomotive could probably be a substitute on WSR, especially considering we already have the tech for multiple timetables on any route.
